Hello, I just recently came across Amherst, and I believe this is my dream school. It has great economics department, plenty of girls, and it looks favorably on community college students. I got to community college in Georgia and just finished my first year.

My question is: how can I improve the chances of me getting in? I have 3.87 GPA (23 credits, 29 by the summer) with just one B so far. I haven't been invited to join Phi Theta Kappa yet, and I am a member of just one club which is outdoor adventure club. I really want to hear from people who actually transferred to Amherst, but I would appreciate anyone's feedback.

They took 15 out of 500 this year, and they like community college students. The essays are very very important.

I wish I was good at writing essays. English is not my native language, but I think they might take it into consideration when evaluating my application.

The language itself is not that important as long as it gets the meaning through. I think the best way is to do whatever you love, and say something about it in your application. Make your numbers look better. Be yourself. I think those are pretty much what you can do. Chance is slim for almost everyone. GOOD LUCK!

Good luck! I am also seeking to transfer to a better school!

Thanks for the advice ChengStat. I think I’ll just give it a shot, and if I don’t get in, I’ll just go to Georgia Tech.

GT is a great school too. Good Luck!
