Wanting to transfer to UCI, what are my chances?

Ever since I visited Los Angeles, I fell in love with the area! I wanted to apply to a University in California and I found UCI. I want to become a doctor, possibly an oncologist or endocronologist (Both for personal reasons, mother has Diabetes and there is a spread of Cancer in my hometown in Mexico). I not from California so I don't know where I stand because I checked the admission percentages of UCI is about 50% and of those 50% admitted only about 3-4% are from another state. My stats:

High School GPA: 3.95 weighted - 3.75 unweighted
College GPA: 4.0
NHS member Junior Year
Robotics Club (US FIRST) 3rd place regional finish 2007
First Generation College student
Hispanic
Bi-lingual if that helps
Volunteer at local schools
24 ACT score, Reading and Writing portions are what brought me down, English is my second language.
SAT didn't take it.
AP test were taken but weren't reported to any college. Didn't do so well.
Other things. IDK just ask.

I wanted to know if I have a good chance of getting into UCI aslo I want to transfer and go to a California CC I have family over there and I was wondering If I go for 1 year can I become a permanent resident and get In-State tuition. If I go to a CCC can I participate in the TAG program, BTW how does that work?

Thanks for all those who can help.

Also if I attend a California Community College first which one is the best around the LA area. More specifically Whittier, CA. Thanks. Do Community Colleges over there have 100% acceptance rate? Over here where I live, Kansas, they do.

Look in the CC archives for the many threads about establishing residency for in state tuition
May be simpler for you to stay in Kansas

UCI is NOT Los Angeles.

Apply to UCLA and USC.

No school is offering me what I need, University of Kansas has a Medical program but the school is to much party and not much study. it has a nearly 100% acceptance rate and I’d rather spend my money somewhere where I know I will at least get a decent education. I think I’m going to transfer to a California CC and then transfer to a UC. My parents are leaving to Mexico so I might as well leave Kansas. I go to a CC out of my county and its nearly as if I’m paying for Out-of-State. So WTH? I should just pay for some place I like.

I know UCI is not LA its very close though. I mean the Metro area in general.

if you go to a cc in california for 2 years you can join TAG where your guaranteed admission to all the UC’s besides UCLA and Berkely aslong as you follow the TAG agreement.

Can I transfer to a California Community College cause right now I’m attending a Community College here in my current state. Any idea as to if I can? Or is it a definite yes? I want to know because my condition is changing. My parents are moving to Mexico so the ONLY way I can stay in the US currently is if I move with my Aunt in California.

transfer to a cc? cant anyone attend any cc… i think the best thing to do is just attend a california cc right away if you want to go to a UC in california…u can join TAG and be guaranteed to really good UC’s in your area like UC Irvine, San Deigo,Santa Barbara. If your out of state its REALLY hard to get accepted.
But from your GPA it looks like you’ll get accepted easily to UCLA and Irvine if you attend a california cc for 2 years

Nonresident Tuition, Out of State

Nonresidents will be charged $122 per unit in addition to the basic and required enrollment fees that include out-of-state residents (U.S. citizens).

Thanks that’s what I needed to know? Also would it be better if I went and transferred to a California CC in Jan or should I just wait until next fall? By the way what CC would be the best one in the Norwalk, Whitter, well the entire LA county area? I want attend the Best because I want a challenge. XP Thanks.

Bump… I’m choosing between Cerritos CC and SMC, any suggestions? Also would it be a good Idea to transfer in Jan rather then waiting until Next fall?

Santa Monica college is good.near ucla. Orange coast college is good too. kinda near uci.

Hispanic? As in from hispaniola?

dude thats awsome, i’ve heard there a majority in california but ive never met one from the islands… cool beans…

Hispanic does not equal latino, hispanic is a word made up by the government in order to group spanish speaking from the americas into a a voting group, Hispanic is not what we have ever called our-selfs.

apply to UC Merced
