I'd like to find a good LAC in a warmer climate. Preferably a smaller school (2,000 - 3,000 students). 3.7 unweighted GPA, 1900 SAT. Any ideas?

Occidental, Pitzer, Furman (a university, but student population is under 3 thousand), Chapman, Claremont McKenna (reach). Whittier (safety)

U. Richmond

Pomona (CA, big reach)
Claremont McKenna (CA, reach)
Davidson (NC, reach)
Occidental (CA)
U Richmond (VA)
Pitzer (CA)
Rhodes (TN)
Centre College (KY)
Goucher (MD)
Hendrix (AR)
Guilford (NC)
St. Mary’s College of Md (public)
New College of Florida (public)

(some of these may be stretching your limits of “warmer climate”)

IMO, Pomona and CMC are not worth the app fees with those stats. Of the Claremonts, Scripps is the best possibility, for xx chromosomes.

Mills too, and higher acceptance rates than Scripps.

UNC - Ashville (public, 3.5k undergraduate)
William & Mary (public, 6k undergraduate), less LACish

even smaller: St. John’s (Santa Fe, NM)

Trinity seems like it would be perfect for you. It’s warmer and has stronger academics than many of the above suggestions.

Eckerd and Rollins are other possibilities.

Rollins would be worth a look!

Texas has three options, all comfortably within your stat range: Austin College north of Dallas, Southwestern University just outside Austin, and Trinity University in San Antonio. (Don’t let the University part fool you, they’re all LAC’s.) AC and Southwestern are about 1350 students, and compete for students and on the athletic fields with Hendrix in Arkansas. Trinity is about 3000 students.

New College of Florida.

Rollins College… a very small LAC located in sunny central Florida

Try Chapman University in Orange, California. Your stats are within range. However, their student body is around mid 4,000 for undergrad. Gorgeous campus, great weather and location, 15 minutes to Newport Beach if you enjoy going to the beach.

University of Redlands in southern California. Beautiful campus!

Agree with Furman and Richmond.

Thanks for all of the thoughtful and helpful suggestions. We’re looking into some of the schools right now!
