WARNING! ACT Fiasco

ACT changed the writing section of the ACT test and how it is graded with the September 12, 2015 test. Apparently in doing so, its management overlooked that it might need more resouces to timely grade tests. Be aware that last week ACT admitted that it is having long delays grading the writing section of a lot of tests. See https://www.insidehighered.com/quicktakes/2015/10/23/major-delay-obtaining-act-scores. There are still a large percentage of September test-takers who do not have their writing score, now more than 7 weeks after the test was taken. The October test could face like delays. In its admission, ACT offered nothing to establish if and when the problem may be fixed, and simply suggested that colleges accept photocopy screen spots of the section score for EA or ED until it could get the writing scores out. You should not assume colleges will accept that process (some have already said otherwise).

At this time, ACT and its management are offering no constructive solutions or even promising to fix the problem for the Octobert test that was just given. Moreover, you likely should not assume the December test will be graded in time to be considered for regular admission by many colleges that usually take through that Dec test. Thus, you would be wise to consider the alternative of taking the Nov or Dec SAT if your intent was to take the Dec ACT for regular admission.

yikes! this might really suck for a LOT of people :open_mouth:

You’re totally right. I’m afraid my Dec ACT will be a futile effort for admissions… I’m sure many will bail on the December date. I still don’t have my writing score for September…

I’m still waiting on my test scores. I can’t apply to any schools without them. There goes my full-ride scholarship. I am so fed up with ACT.
