warning before you take AP Enviro...

so I took AP Human my sophomore year and took AP Enviro as a "blow-off" senior year class.

It ended up being one of the only fours I got (I got 5s on the other three and one more 4).

Granted, I had a horrible teacher who didn't prepare us at all, but everyone always said it was a relatively easy AP exam. I soon discovered that this was not at all the case.

<a href="http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap08_EnvironmentalSci_GradeDistributions.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap08_EnvironmentalSci_GradeDistributions.pdf</a></p>

The scores certainly reflect that this is a much tougher exam than many people think.

For all the talk about AP Human-Enviro crossover, I found that only on one topic of Enviro (population graphs, etc.) did any Human knowlege help me, and that stuff was the easiest of the Enviro stuff anyway.

The Enviro exam was EXTREMELY specific about laws, chemical spills, pesticides, etc. and I felt it was so broad that it would've been hard to memorize all of that (since you really have no idea what will be on the exam).

I also think people get into trouble when they confuse familiarity with knowlege...most of the Enviro material is somewhat familiar/common sense, but the AP exam questions were tricky and required you to have more than just a basic overview of certain topics. So simply knowing "about" something was not enough, you have to know it.

I was wondering if any other people out there have had similar experiences. How did you all do on Enviro? Did you find it substantially harder than you'd been led to believe beforehand?

Thanks for the heads up. But I’ve always studied stuff in enviro. science so I think I’ll be ok if I self-study.

I took Human Geo and was thinking about taking AP Enviro for my senior year. I thought Human Geo was interesting but very boring at times. Also, we spent hardly anytime on population graphs for Human and so I don’t know how much it comes in to play.

I took AP Enviro as a “fluff” course as well, but it turned out to be absurdly difficult.

I ended up drawing in the book and still got a three, but a four probably would’ve been unattainable considering my effort exerted on the exam.

The rest of the exams I passed, by the way.

I read Barron’s prep book (no actual course) in one night and took the exam the next morning. I didn’t think it was too bad, and I ended up with a 4.

Iunno, I self studied this and ended up getting a 5. I agree that the MC questions were pretty difficult and specific. I didn’t expect to do so well on that portion. But I thought the free response was very very BS’able, and I thought they were all very easy to understand exactly what they were testing.

Uhm, as to what I did, I took AP Bio this year so I guess that helped with the ecology stuff. And I read barron’s like halfway before going “*** this stuff is too much” and I made Princeton Review my bible.
