WARNING - Do not just post your essay on CC

Posting Essays and other Sensitive Information

As posted earlier (not sure if anyone ever goes bad to read old posts): Please everyone heed the warning. Do NOT just post your essay on the website - that makes it free for the taking. Put an idea out there or a starter or something and then ask for someone to respond via private messages. You should not run the risk of someone stealing your work.

All posts that are in accordance with the College Confidential Terms of Service are left in place. Such posts are not removed because a poster later decides that they should not have posted it. Do not request moderators to remove such posts.

When posting to College Confidential, please assume that college admissions people and high school principals are reading your posts. If you post an essay, anyone can read and copy it. All posts to the Internet can be seen and copied by anyone who has a computer.

A more cautious approach to getting an opinion of your essay would be to ask a well-respected poster if they would read and comment on your essay---and then handle the matter via Private Message or email.

Think about security before you post... on College Confidential or any other place on the web.

Another thing that I worry about with posting essays is that it will then exist on the internet. When you send the essay in to a college, any plagiarism checker the college uses will flag your essay. There is no way for them to know that someone like PlainJane456 is YOU.

I have posted quite a few essays on CC, but that is because I wrote a book on writing essays and am trying to help show how to do it. But I don’t worry about plagiarism because IT WILL BE CAUGHT and I’m not submitting these to a college.

Is there any way you can get rid of a thread?
