Warning: "Important Information About Your Application" May be a Scam

To all applicants,

You might have received an email titled "Important Information About Your Application". Please check the email domain of the sender and make sure the ending is @cornell.edu.

I received a email from myivypage.net saying that there are materials missing. I logged on to my Application Status Page to make sure that everything is processed. I then called Cornell to confirm that.

The admission office said that do not trust senders with domains other than @cornell.edu.

Best Wishes,

FB lalaland

I got one of those emails. The from: is from cornell.edu but the mailed by: is from myvippage.net

Either way, I got snail mail today confirming what I was missing.

Hm, I wonder what the point of that scam is. Just to freak everybody out? I don't think I've gotten one but I'll delete it if I find it in my inbox. Thanks. :)

They probably want to steal your identity, seeing as your application probably contains information like social security number.

they are definitely trying to steal your identity....sounds like a phishing email.
