Warren College? Pros/Cons

Hi all, was accepted to Earl Warren College yesterday =) Human Bio major...
What are the pro/cons? Thanks

Pros: only 2 writing ge’s, and the other ge’s aren’t too bad, decent social life in warren, close to price center, close to the pool(if you even swim), earl’s place(store where you can buy things with meal pts)
Cons: dorms pretty far from most classes, far from RIMAC, not too great dining hall

I do believe most bio/chem classes are quite far from Warren (could be mistaken on that…I’m Comp Eng so my classes were all over the place), so a lot of walking may be in store for you. Of course, that should help keep the Freshman 15 off :)

One pro that many people overlook is the 25¢ per gallon water dispenser we have. Much cheaper to refill your water here rather than buying a new one everytime you run out, or refilling it with tap water (which I may add tastes DISGUSTING).

can you just take a skateboard? how far is warren from the so called “frats”

We don’t have a frat row at UCSD

Good thing about Warren Writing is that it’s only 2 quarters long. Compare that with ERC’s MMW, which is 6 quarters, or Revelle’s HUM, which is 5.

The bad thing is that it’s notoriously difficult. Each class has 15 people and, on average, there are 2 A’s at most given out to each class.

Earl’s Place is nice… Canyon Vista isn’t that great, though.

do you not need to take writing if you scored above a certain threshold on the sat 1 writing section?
is bike/board the general mode of transportation?

@otrebmu: The threshold in the sat1 or the passing of the AP test exempts you from the UCSD english placement test (or something along those lines, forgot what it’s called), but does not exempt you from any of the college specific writing courses.

And yea Canyon has definitely gone downhill this year…i found it semi-decent last year, especially the pizzas when they were hot out of the oven. Now its all unappealing.

aww. that’s better than nothing

Oh and completely overlooked your transportation question…I notice many people using longboards and bikes around campus, and they do seem quite convenient. The majority of people do walk, myself included. Sometimes it can be a hassle, but I like to look at it as staying in shape  Especially after Burger King opened up.

lol… i see, thank you

what if i already took english classes at community college? like engl 122 and 125(uc transferable).

AHH **** is that only the writing classes or is every else difficult as well? lol
thanks!

Only the writing classes, I think there is a department limit on the amount of A’s they give out. Not sure about the community college courses.

How are the dorms?

Dorms are nice. I might have a few pictures I took from last year, in which case I’ll put them up somewhere. I had a single, and I had no complaints. Easily got a fridge and microwave in there, and had room for all my clothes using the drawers and the closet. I even had room to store my 3 suitecases below the bed.

Alright here’s a link…sorry there’s only 4 pictures, I can’t find the rest. Hopefully it gives somewhat of an idea of how much room there was. And sorry for the mess, one of those was taken during finals week.

haha, thanks a lot! I’m really starting to get excited about going.

the only reason you had enough room was cause all your stuff was on the floor. haha.

and what’s the point of these threads? why do you need to pros and the cons after you’ve already been accepted? i understand asking during the application period, but now it’s kinda pointless. you can just wait and see for yourself.

Hey hey not true. You know for a fact most of the time the stuff was all on my bed.

Far from RIMAC? :frowning:
Which dining hall is closest to Warren?
