Right sooooo a few questions about the Warren Honors programs! Yup! So, I got the WARR 11A-B scholars seminar email asking me to join up. I declined because of this and that, which is neither here nor there. Also, I'm a regents scholar. Woo! Do these things mean I'm also an honors student, or is that a separate affair? Would that mean I get into the honors dorm? Is there an advantage to being an honors student or to living in the honors dorm?

about the warren honors dorm? did we have to apply or select it? because I’m in honors but I never got an email about honors dorm or the ability to choose to live in one.

this was in the email

If you would like to live on the Scholars floor, you must email warrenhonors@ucsd.edu with your name and student ID number by July 15, 2009.

i do now know if i should live on a scholars floor or not. what are the advantages/disadvantages?

I don’t remember getting that email. You think if I email them anyways I might get in? Well, it might be first come first serve anyways, at which point it’s probably too late. But even if it was possible, like dogbreath said: is it worth it? I think it’s on the first floor too, which is convenient, but I rather like the idea of having a view and being able to leave my window open.

Although I’m an incoming freshman as well, I believe it’s best to live on scholars floor. The people I’ve talked to have all encouraged me to do it. I personally would rather be with smart people than have a view and leave my window open.

Sonium, just curious but how did you get invited to Warr 11A-B and not scholars floor? I thought they were in the same email.

Well I just heard about the scholars floor earlier today in a different board. The Warr 11a-b was in an email I got may 15th. I checked the email again, and it only has info about Warr 11a-b. I never followed up on it, however. Was it the first seminars email or a followup email that had info about honors housing? Also, do you know if it’s first come first serve? I’m probably going to call someone tomorrow and ask them if I’m on the list.

The scholars floor email (which also had information on Warr 11a/b) was sent on April 28. The May 15th one was a follow up to Warr 11a/b. You should email Ms. Madrid asking if you’re in the honors program (which I think you are because of Warr 11a/b). The email said you need to apply for scholars floor by July 15. I’m pretty sure it’s not first come first serve; they should make space for anyone who qualifies and wants to join.

You are only invited to the scholars floor if you take Warr 11A. If you turn it down, you aren’t invited.

Okay alright okay. Here’s the story. I called up Shamara Madrid, who is heading up the honors program. Turns out I did get the other email, just in a different email address (my original address instead of the ucsd address). Also turns out that, according to her, there are no class requirements in order to be in the honors program or the scholars floor. This includes Warr 11A. The only requirements are 700+ Sat’s (or equivalent act’s) and 3.8+ unweighed gpa upon entering. After that you remain in the program (and floor) for the duration of your first year. Continued membership after your first year requires that you maintain a 3.7 gpa or higher at UCSD. This is all what she told me. If you would like to check for yourself her contact information is on the Warren College Directory here: [Warren College Directory](http://warren.ucsd.edu/faculty_staff/directory/)

Oooookay alright. Now to decide if I’d like to join…

Sorry for the misinformation. Two years ago, they only invited people taking Warr 11A.

No, it’s completely understandable. Upon taking a second look I realize that I may have seemed snide while correcting you, but this was not my intent. I simply meant to share what I have learned. I applied to the scholars floor, although my late housing registration may prevent me from joining. All the same anyone else who applied is welcome to drop me a line. We might be living together.

Haha, no worries. I didn’t think you were being snide - I just wanted to correct myself for the record. I dislike people who give out misinformation and then lay low once they’re corrected.
