Hey everyone, I’m a junior in high school thinking of applying to Stern and Wharton (and possibly Columbia) next year as a finance major, and just wanted to know what aspects of my application I should build and improve on to help my chances of admission. I’d really appreciate the feedback
GPA: 100.1 (my school uses a numeric average (x/100) instead of a 4.0 GPA scale)
Courses: I’ve taken 7 APs so far, and I’ll be taking 4 more next year as a senior. Since I finished AP Calculus BC in my sophomore year of high school, I submitted a dual enrollment application to Georgia Tech and got accepted for the Linear Algebra course. Next semester I’ll be taking Multivariable Calculus, and next year I’ll be taking Applied Combinatorics and Differential Calculus (provided Georgia Tech doesn’t cancel the program).
SAT: 1590 (first attempt)
SAT Subject Tests: Math 2 - 770 (retaking for a higher score later this year), and taking Physics the summer of this year
Extracurriculars & Leadership/Awards:
- School soccer team(4 years); Varsity this year and next
-Marching Band & Regular Band (4 years); Band soloist and band captain
-Member of District Honor Band for 2 years, auditioning again this year
-Vice-president and co-founder of a club at my school (2 years)
-Founding member and Board of Directors (treasurer and marketing) for a 501c3 nonprofit organization my sophomore and Junior year
-BETA; 3rd place state 2018, 2nd place state 2019, national finalist 2019, and competing again this year
-Currently in the process of starting and registering my own nonprofit organization (should hopefully be completed and set up by spring of 2020)
Internship and Work:
-Worked a part-time job last summer
-Business internship this coming summer
-(I’m also applying for Wharton’s LBW program, but I doubt I’ll get in lol)
Recommendation Letters:
-My junior year pretty much just started, but I’m thinking of asking my AP Chemistry teacher and either my Band or AP Physics teachers for recs.
