Was it really ridiculous?

I was going to do Great Gatsby, too. But the words "modern times" threw me off too. I didn't know if they considered the 1920s modern times.

Instead, I wrote about America's desire for the biggest SUVs, etc., as we sit back and relax while global warming sends the world to hell. I was a little harsh, huh?

Yea neither did I polka, if they didn't my essay is crap.

I kinda stated that back then I do consider modern times, they really didn't put a specific time frame to define as "modern times" so it's quite ambiguous.

I imagine Modern Times is WWII onwards.. thought I don't think ETS is gonna play semantics and hurt you for considering the early-20th century modern.

i had the same problem, I wasn't able to finish my second body paragraph...curses!!!!!!!!!!

It was very well written (i would say 11-12 if i had finished). Do you think i can still pull off a 10 or will I be condemned to (yet another) 8?

I saw post Civil War times as modern. Early modern, but modern nonetheless

Can Sb Pm Me The M-word????
It's Driving Me Nuts!!! :D

materialism

I said M was fine and used Communism as an example in favor of it...since you know...Communism doesn't work and all.

in theory it does. lol

communism hasn't really been implemented in its untainted form yet, so you can't use whatever "communist" regimes exist as examples against communism... vive la revolucion! :)

I said communism caused people to lose all drive since everyone got the same stuff. Materialism promotes effort and such...

Materialism also promotes greed =P

I used line from William Wordsworth's "The World is Too Much With Us" in my paper:

"getting and spending, we lay waste our powers"

I was wondering, I used two personal experiences and this literary example, does it really hurt me that I didn't add in an historical example?

Ecth, I'd assume as long as the literary as well as your personal examples are well developed and you have decent structure/vocab you'll be fine

Will it really hurt if I didn't finish my conclusion? I already had 2 sentences and I didn't get to put the last one..

It won't hurt much if your body paragraphs were really detailed
