Wonderful insight hmom5, thanks a lot. Hmmm I know from my brother that NYU gives terrible aid, so maybe if I don’t want to stress out my parents with loans and such, I should just apply to Middlebury ED1? Maybe I should apply no financial aid to Stern. Would that increase my chances substancially?

I think you have a much better chance at Stern than Middlebury. Schools like Midd that have such a low percentage of kids not in the top 10% are going to be tough. At least NYU can bury the stat among their many!

I think you’ve got a good shot at most of the schools, you have really good ECs. Brown, Amherst are large reaches though, BC slightly less so, but still a reach.

I don’t know much about NYU so I can’t really speak about applying with or without financial aid though, sorry. I would think you might get in though.

And as other people have said, be sure to explain off your GPA.

I agree with a lot of the posters about the GPA/class rank even if it is being explained. I think Brown and Amherst are reaches, but a lot of those other schools look like they’d be good matches, especially with your EC’s. Make sure the essays and recs are excellent.

I agree with others that your GPA is a tiny bit low, but I think your scores and EC’s make up for it, for the most part.

Brown, BC, and Vassar are more reachy than the others. You look really good for GW, Villanova, and Colgate. I think you have shots at all of them, though.

Your gpa is okay, and your ACT score is pretty good. I’m not sure if you’ll get into your top schools but I’m sure your EC’s will help a lot! good luck!

Yeah I guess this is a huge warning sign for me. My GPA at the end of Junior year should be a 3.5 so my rank should go lower. It might reach 3.6 by senior year, then my UW rank will be top 20% in time for Middlebury ED2 after I’m a reject at Stern lol.

1) NYU possibility
2) Middlebury reach
3) Brown University reach
4) Amherst reach
5) Colgate reach
6) Carnegie Mellon reach and look into their very specific requirements for SAT IIs by major
7) Boston College reach
8) George Washington high match
9) Union match
10) Vassar reach
11) Villanova match
12) RPI match

and if Financial AID is really a big problem you should definitely try to shorten your list. You are looking at nearly $1000 of application fees here.

This is probably one of the 5 most impressive extra-curricular lists I have ever seen! The only real issue here is your GPA, but I think you have a really good shot at NYUI’d be very surprised if at least one of your top choices didn’t pick you. Honestly, if I were a college admissions officer, I think I’d accept you without a high school diploma.

haha I know! I actually have gotten straight A’s and A-'s in all of my classes! The only problem is history…I have gotten a B- in AP Euro and AP US and others. I am not majoring in history though, I won’t see why colleges would care about my history grades lol. Well, I am going to be on CC for another year and when I post my results on the “actual results” thread we will all see how far ( or how not far lol) EC’s and recs take you haha.

It is just “Stern” no added “s” at the end.

But yeah, I have something against pre-professional business…it just doesn’t sound right lol, but yeah I might just want to apply to NYU CAS instead. I would be just as happy and confident of getting an ibanking internship there.

1) NYU Stern ED1 ( pseudo-legacy: two cousins) - Likely (depends on legacy I would guess)
2) Middlebury ED2 (if rejected from #1) - Possibly
3) Brown University ( I know…) - Unlikely
4) Amherst - Unlikely
5) Colgate - Possibly
6) Carnegie Mellon - Don’t know so won’t offer opinion
7) Boston College - Possibly
8) George Washington Possibly
9) Union - Possibly
10) Vassar - Possibly
11) Villanova - likely
12) RPI - likely
13) Excelsior (Safety) - shoo in
14) College of Saint Rose (Safety) - shoo in
15) SUNY Albany (Safety) - shoo in

PS: Travel soccer counts as an extracurricular?
