I was the founder and president of my school’s Democrat/Republican club. Should I just say I was the president of a political club or should I label the specific party. I feel that labeling the party would make me seem interested and motivated in a specific cause but I also feel it may be too controversial. Thoughts? Thanks.
Label it. If you started a club you must feel at least somewhat strongly about it. While bigoted admissions officers who would never admit a Rebunlican/Democrat/whatever surely exist most truly want as many diverse views as possible as it makes for a more lively intellectual environment.
Party affiliation is pretty general, and very few party members truly believe in the party’s entire agenda. Admissions officers know that. So you’re safe.
Thanks for your advice. What do you think about adding it in an essay? I have to write an essay about a non-academic pursuit and I feel like founding and being president of a club is perfect but I don’t want to sound like an ideologue. I wouldn’t talk about my beliefs but I would talk about leadership and how I could contribute to an active, involve, and /diverse campus. Thanks again.
