ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!i cannot believe it!!!my first choice has always been Cal Poly Pomona, I was too reject few months ago and just got email accepting me back last thursday. …Why is this happening to us??? I was eligible consideration like many and denied the next and was not qualified to be put on wait list. they said my bronco direct student account would also be deleted and if i still wanted to attend, I would have to reapply again for next year. Class starts next month!!! What is up with Pomona? I already accepted Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and prepared so much for it, goals, plans, paid for housing, ready to go orientation in a week to register for classes, sold my car, quit my job in LA to go there. Now Pomona accept me back after they reject me??? How come they don’t tell me this earlier. I want to go Pomona, but now that I spend so much time, energy, and preparation to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I am in so much confusion and dilemma right now!!! What is wrong with Pomona seriously!!! I was gonna continue my job if I go Pomona. Whats going on with the admissions???Who else is accepted and all settled for another University, but got accepted back to this school??? I am so ticked off. I tried calling them all day this past friday all day, and no one was able to aswer my phone call. Ive been calling them all day and can’t reach them again!!! Always have so much difficulty getting in contact with them even since applying , like no one in the admin building working. Its a shame and im just simply disgusted by the school’s behavior and attitude!!!They are just playing with us!!!and now “Stealing” us back from other colleges. This is just so ridiculous!!! If I had a choice, I would rather stay in LA, the only reason because its closest and would be cheaper, but the backup school that only accepted me was San Luis Obispo. Whats all this all about. Changing mind and all this last minute stuff. Now they want me to accept or reject by August 13 with $100 deposit. I am getting a severe headache now with all this. Im about to start class too like everyone else next month!!! Ill probably be having even hard time to get classes for next month…why all this I AM SO angry and disgusted with all this!!!

Seems strange that you got accepted to SLO, while you were (initially) rejected from Pomona. I thought SLO had much stricter admissions.

I posted this on the “anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet” thread months ago. I guess I was right.

“”"I hope Cal Poly isn’t making a huge mistake by being overly selective only to find out later that the are short of students and having to scramble to fill the spots at the last minute with bottom of the barrel students. There seems to be a bunch of highly qualified students that will be going to UCs and LBSU and CSUF when their first choice was Pomona. This is unprecedented. I realize that they’re aiming for 3,000 combined freshmen and transfer students next year when they had over 4,500 this year, and there are about 8,000 more applicants this year. Do these numbers justify the jump in admissions standards this year? I guess we’ll find out, but I sure hope the admissions office knows what they are doing. “”

I honestly could not see Cal Poly Pomona going from 5 impacted majors with somewhat above CSU admissions standards two years ago to UCI and UCD admissions standards this year. Enrollment and budget cuts alone cannot account for this. CPP would also need to have a huge increase in student interests as well to support these new standards. Where would all that renewed interests have come from?? I have no idea. The thought of having denied admissions to someone who got into SLO, UCI, UCD, is beyond me. It tellls me that CPP administrators grossly miscalculated. If you chose to go to SLO because of CPP incompetence, it would be a huge Pomona loss. I am wondering how many more potential top notch students were rejected as well.

BTW Adesigner, what’s your major?

I certainly see the frustration in your email and can imagine how disturbing/confusing this all is.

Now, settle down and work your way through this logically. Get a soda, or ice tea, some nuts/crackers, paper, pen, calculator, and sit down where you can concentrate. Figure out a pro/con list over the long term (like total cost, choice of major, etc.) Try to remember why CPP was your first choice, and if those factors are still valid. Now figure out a pro/con list over the next couple of months (lost deposits, whether you can get first term classes you want due to late registration, etc.). Now, review both lists, and don’t think that short term pro/cons are in the same league as the long term ones. If you are decide to at least explore Pomona more, develop a “to do” list, and figure out which ones must come first. Consider going there on Monday to meet people face-to-face to get your questions answered; that may be quicker than phone tag. Realize that the $100 deposit due the 13th is chicken feed, in the long run. You can always buy another car, and maybe even get your job back.

Settle down, lock in, and focus.

you needa calm down, and i thought SLO is better than pomona at least on rankings? what’s your major?

$100 deposit? My email said the enrollment confirmation deposit is 50. Can somebody confirm this? Oh btw…there offices are opened monday thru thursday…I stopped by on Friday and nobody was there.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments. Im gladly appreciate for hearing me and and for you thoughts. I just had to speak out on this issue. I can believe there are others who maybe in a similar situation.

@egmontus and Morningsup: I planned to major in Finance for Business Admin.

@UT84321: Thanks for the great tips, I really do need to sit down and relax a bit. I need to re- analyze both schools, plans, and goals again. I feel like I will have wasted so much time and energy if Im going to reconsider Pomona… It is very frustrating and time is very crucial at the moment regarding my “to do list”

@iizignant: I believe the $50 was just the non refundable application fee, but the $100 is the registration fee. The email I received says
Yes, I plan to attend Cal Poly Pomona for Fall 2010. I have enclosed my non-refundable $100 check or money order (made payable to Cal Poly Pomona) before the deadline of 8/13/2010. This deposit will be applied toward my Fall 2010 registration fees.
I will not attend Cal Poly Pomona for Fall 2010. I understand that if I wish to be considered for a future quarter, I will need to submit a new application form and a new application fee during the period that this future quarter is accepting applications.

If Money was not really a big issue, I would not even look back at CPP, The fact is that, my expense in LA would be a lot less. Tuition is a few thousand cheaper than SLO and I can still continue my rent where im living which is extremely cheap, because Im actually renting it from my relative, so they are helping me out a bit. The fact is I planned everything for SLO, all the time and energy spent, and know for myself of the great plans and goals at that school and career…

Adesigner, just so you know, all the offices at CPP are closed on Fridays…so it’s not that they were trying to cause you more grief, it’s because of budget cutbacks.

Agree with UT84… sit down and look over all your options carefully. Obviously this is incredibly frustrating for you! You could go to SLO this year and possibly transfer to CPP, I believe there is a track for doing that…I’ve seen a link here on CC some time back that covers that. Research that option carefully- budget cuts may have changed somethings. Don’t make a hasty, emotion centered decision, make a sound, rational decision. Once you make your decision head off to whichever school with a positive attitude about making it all work…wherever you wind up. Don’t head to SLO and dwell on “I should have been at CPP”, or vice-versa, it will only make your time there miserable. Keep us posted on what you decide. Both are great schools (even though one would cost you more), you will have an outstanding experience at either. Good luck!

Hi everybody!

Tomorrow 8/13 is the deadline to accept or decline CPP. I have declined their offer. I have finally made my decision today after spending numerous hours reevaluating, analyzing, and planning this past week. I decide to keep the status quo in which everything was previously already planned and attend SLO for good! Im relieved now and will put down all the stress and dilemma to get back on track and fully focus back on SLO. College is certainly an expensive investment and I guess I will be racking up some loans for a while, but I know SLO will be a great school environment for me to, learn, study, grow, meet new people, and build a foundation for my future. @OaksMom…I will ground myself maturely with determination in having a positive attitude during my time there and will look back with no regret and resentment. Many thanks and appreciation for everyone’s feedback and support. I believe this will be my last thread post here. I had wonderful and very emotional time reading the threads and especially “Anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet?” with full of frustrations and that had so many views and replies that it even made news headline to CPP…Anyway, to the many folks who experienced a similar situation like me, I wish you all the best of luck in wherever school you have decided or re-decided to attend. I hope you all will have an AWESOME start in your new school year next month!!! Good luck!!!

Good luck on your educational endeavors and I think you’ve made a good choice. You’re truly a big loss to Pomona. I hope they’ve learned their lesson for next year.

I just got an admission offer letter from the school of Business today after being rejected back in May. I was planning to attend El Camino college and transfer to USC, but weighing the cost of attending SC versus Pomona may make me change my mind. I’ve already paid for my Fall classes at El Camino too. I have until August 23 to turn in my SIR with the deposit. I think I’m going to accept the offer, make sure I get all my classes at Poly and ensure a smooth transition before asking for a refund from El Camino :)

sythna7,

as a cal poly student, I somewhat feel responsible for the mess our administration has created. I really wished they had better foresight as to how many students they should accept. I think you’re making the right choice in accepting your Pomona offer. I’ve been trying to get an idea of what kind of applicants are getting accepted this late in the game. Do you mind telling us what your stats are? It would be good to to know for next year’s applicants. Again, I think you’ve made the right decision and you will not regret a bit of it.

mrsleonore, don’t feel responsible lol. I should mention that I pretty much placed all my eggs in Cal Poly Pomona and was pretty bummed when I got my rejection letter. But this is all even better.

I have a 3.4 gpa and completed over 60 units and all lower division major requirements for a Business transfer (i.e. accounting 1 & 2, econ 1 & 2, etc). The ONLY class I didn’t complete prior to applying as a transfer student is the math course of the golden 4, i.e. in-progress. And I suspected that I was turned away because I didn’t finish it prior to applying. Well, I finished it (College Algebra) in spring '10 with a B and will be sending the transcript over to Poly soon. :)

syntha7. I am glad you finally got accepted. I am also glad that CPP isn’t desperately trying to fill up spots with unqualified students. With your GPA, I am surprised they didn’t just snap you up right away. I guess that’s just a sign of the times. One saving grace of the budget cuts is that CPP is really getting top caliber students like yourself. Like I said, you will not regret your decision and hope you have a great experience at CPP!

Thanks mrsleonore! I got the admission offer via email while driving home from work today at around 4.30pm, nearly lost control when I first read it briefly!

I’ve been working to get into Cal Poly since Fall 2007. Now I get to attend my dream school with my GF (though she’s beginning her Masters) :)

Adesigner, you won’t be disappointed with Cal Poly SLO. Great campus in a BEAUTIFUL laid-back coastal town. My GF and I take weekend trips up north whenever our schedules are compatible. If you can get a ride around town, be sure to visit the nearby Morro Bay, Cayucos and Cambria. You’ll love it (although there is a noticeable air of arrogance from SLO students toward Pomona students, LOL) . Cal Poly SLO was one of my alternate choices to pursue after Pomona initially rejected me.
