Wash U Break Schedule

Hey all, I'll be attending next fall and I'm interested in the breaks Wash U students get off from school. In addition to winter break, what other times do you get off? And for how long?
Thanks!

There is a fall break, usually the weekend before parent’s weekend so mid-October, but it’s really only a Friday with no classes so it’s a three-day weekend.

Thanksgiving (Weds-Sunday)

Winter Break

MLK Day

Spring Break

And…that’s pretty much it.

Here’s the actual dates for the next handful of years:

[Academic Calendars | Office of the University Registrar](<a href=“Academic Calendars | Office of the University Registrar | Washington University in St. Louis”>Academic Calendars | Office of the University Registrar | Washington University in St. Louis)

There’s also a reading period in between when classes end and exams begin that’s not on those calendars. For example, for Fall '12 (this past semester), the last day of classes was December 7th and exams began December 13th.

In addition, if you are a girl who joins a sorority, expect your winter break to be slashed for recruitment. Girls in sororities are already back on campus now because recruitment begins tomorrow. And it’s not something you can really get out of even once you’re a member - I know someone who couldn’t even get permission to skip it for a service project abroad.
