Hi! So I'm a senior in high school from CT...I love Wash U but probably want to end up in the New York area after college. I've heard, however, that it's tough to get a job in NYC out of Wash U because other places like Cornell, for example (one of my other top choices) has a strong alumni network in the area and Wash U is less well-known.

Do you think going to Wash U will put me at a disadvantage for finding jobs in NY when I graduate because it doesn't have as big a network/there aren't as many connections? Also, do any major NY companies recruit from Wash U?

No. Not all. Wash U actually has a very strong and large network of alumni in the NYC area. After from Chicago and obviously St. Louis, New York is the 3rd largest city for Wash U alumni. Your options for ending up in the NYC area are strongest if you graduate from the business school (where lots of NYC consulting/i-banking/accounting firms recruit on campus), if you later to go grad school in NYC after Wash U, or if you are originally from that area and have your own network (which you seem to).

Of course Cornell would have an immense alumni base in NYC, but that isn’t relevant to the opportunities you’ll get out of Wash U specifically.

A huge amount of people here are from New York as well and return there after college, so unless you royally screw up, the sense I’m getting is that networking isn’t a problem.
