Does anyone know the early decision acceptance rate for Wash U?
It is interesting that in the New York Times report a few weeks ago that indicated early decision versus regular decision acceptance rates for all the well known universities and colleges, that Wash U was not included on that list. This seemed unusual. Also in the Yale Insiders Guide to Colleges that just came out for 2007, under Washington University where it says early acceptance rate all they have listed is Not Avaialble
Does anyone know? Is there some reason they dont want to publish it? ie. they take an overly low number and no one would apply if they knew the odds were so small, or the opposite and they took an extremely large number which helped increase their othewise even lower yield?

Wash U used to have an EA I, EA II something like that policy. I think they currently switched to ED and RD rather than the EA. That's why its unavailable.

they used to have ED I and EDII and now its only ED

Did they publish the rates for ED I and II before? I can understand if they are not available yet because this is the first year they dont have ED I and II. It would be interesting to know what the rates for ED II and II were last year. The question is if there is an advantage to applying early to Wash U versus regular decision

they always made it a big secret. they say its around the same as RD (maybe a little higher). However, I think it is considerably higher and they do not publish it b/c they do not want a lot of people applying who truly do not have a strong interest in WASH U (people applying early for a better chance)

Thanks Jtslick89. It is interesting because I realize that for regular decision they waitlist a large number of applicants and only accept regular decision the very top candidates - offering many of them scholarships to come there. In fact many are invited to come and visit the weekend before they hear from all the colleges. I know they try to attract those who are applying to ivy league schools who might come to Wash U if they are not accepted to the ivy league or if they are accepted but would be attracted to a merit scholarship
Early decision however seemed a mystery. It does seem likely that they might accept a large number of early decision applicants. I imagine if they do that they would definitely accept plenty of top students, but probably many who wouldn't have gotten in early decision. If they did accept a large number I can see how they would not want that publicized.
On the other hand it is also possible that the opposite is true and they accept very few early decision as they know they can get applicants with higher SAT scores in the spring who do not get into their first choice school.
If this was the case they might not want anyone to know that applying early to Wash U was not an advantage. This would drive away many applicants who they plan to defer to the regular decision pool.

Well one of the admissions officer came to talk to our summer program at Washu and told us that early decision acceptance rate varied from year to year. They said Early decision works by holding the applicant to a certain standard rather than applicants competing fom spots.
