I am applying to Wash U early decision and they ask for first marking period grades. I have mostly As and a few high Bs that I hopefully will bring up by the end of the semester, but for now I cant really change them. Do they look super closely at the first marking period grades? In other words are they just checking to make sure I am not failing any classes or should I be worried if I don't have straight As yet.

They’re mainly checking to see that your grades aren’t completely tanking. They understand that early in the semester, there are often few grades in the book and less than an A can be caused by many factors. As long as you look like you’re within striking distance of your previous grades junior year, you should be fine.
