I am torn between Wash U and Tufts for ED...I think I have a really good shot at Tufts ED I but I visited Wash U this past week and feel in love with the campus and its programs and also had a stellar interview. Do you think Wash U is a reach? I know Wash U loves kids who show significant interest and I have been in contact with Wash U admissions officers and students since early April. However, I also like Tufts but I don't know whether applying ED II instead of ED I would significantly damage my chances of being accepted.

I know a couple of kids at Tufts, so Im gonna visit again at least 2 or 3 more times, spend a night, shadow the students to get a sense of their classes, and talk with professors in fields that interest me

My top choices:
1. Wash U
2. Tufts
3. Emory
4. Brown
5. Cornell
6. Johns Hopkins
7. UNC Chapel Hill
8. Georgetown
9. BU
10. UMASS Amherst

Plz help me, I promise to chance back

"I know Wash U loves kids who show significant interest "

That’s a myth. I got in without even knowing what the campus was like and it wasnt even my first choice. So, I think u’ll be fine even if you apply during RD.

If WUSTL is your first choice, applying ED can make a big difference, even for a very competitive candidate.

Why do you want to waste your time redoing an SAT II score? You’re fine. Spend your time on better things: school, enjoying senior year, writing those essays. Go thru your school stats (naviance?) to see if you’re a match. You won’t get into UNC (they have 80% in-state), and the ivies are big unknowns.

I got in ED from a public school in Mass with pretty similar (maybe a little weaker) stats.

@zweebopp: On naviance, our school’s average GPA for washu is 4.35 and avg SAT is 2290…because only 2 or 3 kids have ever applied and all of them were accepted (one of them was super-qualified, thats why averages are that lopsided)
@LHS2009: what high school? I go to Acton-Boxboro

You seem like a really strong candidate for any of those schools, especially because of your involvement with a community outside of this country. I think it would pretty much come down to your essay and your recs

I agree. Maybe I don’t know much because I am applying this year from NC but I think you are an awfully good candidate. Naviance doesn’t help because nobody was denied (hence you are not going to have cutoff scores…

You have great scores and better than great XC’s. Just sell yourself well.
