Wash U Emails

So fellow enrollees...when do we get our brand spankin' new @wustl.edu emails? (I really wanna join the network on facebook, haha)

Appears from the '12 FB page that they got it around May 29th. http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=5542356405&topic=4796

I watched a video by the student body president at WashU, and in that video he proposed that the university sign up for an email program with Google. Apparently, it will cost the school absolutely nothing (currently it costs about a quarter of a million a year to run emails for students), provides better applications (calender, etc.), and many other schools (such as Northwestern) are already using it. The email address will still have a @wustl.edu address, or something similar to it. I really hope WashU listens to the student body and signs up for that, especially now in this economy. I would really love to use my wustl email as my main email (right now i use gmail and i love it).

@nooob - this was originally an administration initiative, as far as I know. They’ve currently decided to either go with Microsoft’s live@edu for mail, or Google mail. It hasn’t been decided which, as there’s a bit of a division on preference between the two, even among students. More info is on the SU website. That wouldn’t be taking effect until Fall of 2010, in all likelihood though.

Shoot, i was hoping for it to begin this year. I really don’t care which one they go for as long as the university saves money and the students benefit from it.

When I was on campus, a lot of the students had their campus emails forwarded to the GMail account because they didn’t like the campus system, and they had set up the GMail accounts so that they could send emails from their @wustl.edu address.

really? I must learn the method of this… I forward to Gmail but don’t have any way of sending email from my @wustl.edu address…

@Don_Quixote: I’ve done this before with other accounts. To enable it, go to Settings->Accounts and the top box is “Send Mail As.” Click on “Add another email address you own,” then a box pops up where you type in the email address you want to appear as, then they send a confirmation email to that email address and, upon clicking the confirm button, you can choose what email address you want your emails to come from. It’s a cool feature for consolidating multiple email accounts into one program.

ok, awesome - got it!
Thanks :)
