Anyone familiar with the Wash U St Louis scholarship process? If I applied RD, about when should I receive a notification regarding my scholarship application status? Thanks!
Probably sometime in late February. There are a number of posts about the same question in the various threads.
If my memory serves me correctly, it’s around mid-Feb to late Feb. Definitely before the RD decision announcement.
Last year, scholarship decisions were posted on the portal for all applicants the evening of March 1st. Some recipients got a call the night before.
Is it possible an applicant received a merit scholarship, but failed to be admitted to the school?
i dont think so; im pretty sure getting a scholarship would mean you’re set for the school
@wings17 If you are chosen for a merit scholarship, you are automatically also accepted to the University.
@JemmaSimmons I’m the Mom of a son who applied and was accepted ED to the School of Engineering at WashU. He applied for the Langsdorf, McKelvey, and Entrepreneurial Scholarship. I was reading the 2017 scholarship acceptance string and saw that you received the Langsdorf. So happy for you! Do you know how many applied for that scholarship? I understand they select 10 freshman students each year. It looks like you got a phone call the last day of February, and it was posted on your WashU Pathway on March 1. Any clue if that will be the case again this year?
@MamaBear2018 Thanks! Congrats and good luck to your son! I don’t know the updated stats for this year (they will announce those over scholars weekend), but if I can recall, last year there were well over 1000 applicants for the Langsdorf. I have no news on the release date for scholarship. I know that the new scholars have been decided at this point, but I’m under the impression that they are waiting to release names until all the scholarship programs university wide are also ready. Hang in there! You’ll know at least by the first of March, if not before.
@JemmaSimmons Thanks for your response. It looks like the odds of getting the Langsdorf are 1% of the applications. Wow! I’ll keep a good thought for my son.
@JemmaSimmons Just found out this evening that my daughter has received the Langsdorf. I am wondering if you would be up for chatting about your son’s experience?
@collcouns12 Congrats to your daughter! That’s full tuition, right? I didn’t know they started notifying scholarship applicants yet. Anyone else get good news yet?
Does everyone that receives a merit scholarship interview get a call the night before?
@collcouns12 Wow!! Congrats to your daughter! It’s actually me that’s the Langsdorf scholar; I’m WashU 2021. I would be thrilled to speak with you and your daughter about my experience here; PM me if you have specific questions Otherwise, you should be hearing soon from (at least) one other Langsdorf scholar who will host your daughter for the duration of Scholars Weekend. Who knows, it might even be me!
@tipster14045 I don’t think every scholarship does phone calls because a) some programs ask ~30 finalists to come to campus and interview and it would take a while to call all of them, and b) I think a lot of recipients were given happy surprises when the portals were updated last year so certainly then not all of them were called beforehand.
A note to all: due to historical trends, I believe that the pathways will be updated tomorrow night around 4-4:30 Central Time. Again, still just a guess, but because phone calls have gone out, that’s a pretty good indicator that it’ll be tomorrow or Thursday (unlikely).
@CollCouns and @JemmaSimmons - Are the Langsdorf Scholarships awarded before the scholars weekend? I thought that with most (all) of the full and half-tuition scholarships, you are informed that you are a scholarship finalist and then you come for a few days in March, after which you are informed as to what type of scholarship (if any) you will receive. I know it worked like that last year for the Mylonas, Lien, Moog, Annika Rodriguez, and the Ervin scholarships.
My D received phone calls before the portal was updated.
@LoveTheBard The Langsdorf is the only scholarship that does not require an interview to secure. Attendance at Scholars weekend is still mandatory, but they fill it with fun bonding activities, meetings with the deans, and other fun stuff. The Dean of engineering made the decision that he wanted the new scholars to not be stressed over the weekend but to truly be able to take a look at WashU and determine if it’s a good fit.
So, yes, when that phone call came through, she wasn’t a finalist but a full Scholar, should she choose to accept. As the Dean said last year, “You could come and roll in the mud for the entirety of Scholarship Weekend and you would still have the scholarship.” It’s a really nice setup. But yeah, for all the other scholarships, finalists have to Interview for a final decision.
@collcouns12 did you receive a phone call about the Langsdorf or were you notified through the WashU Portal?
@celara55 DD was called last Night about the Langsford Fellowship (also applied for Ervin, Rodrigues and was school nominated for Danforth). Her portal has not yet been updated.
@collcouns12 @greyhound93 congrats on your kids’ getting the Langsdorf Fellowship! I’m going to assume that since I wasn’t notified last night, I didn’t get the Langsdorf… but there’s still hope for the Rodriguez, Ervin, and McKelvey!
@greyhound93 Congrats to your daughter! I’m a current Langsdorf scholar, so let me know if you or your daughter have any questions!
