I'm in Kansas and I've been admitted to Olin and Stern. I don't know where I should go. I really do like Wash U, however, Stern is ranked much higher than Olin, I plan to work in New York after graduation, and I like New York. I'm also a Stern Scholar (10-15% of incoming class of 500). But I keep reading that NYU has lack of a campus, too many people in Stern to get attention, and is unsafe. I read that Olin has great professors, a small class (135), and a real campus (I've stayed overnight, I know it's true). Any of these places I go, it will cost about the same, just slightly more at NYU becuase everything costs more in New York. I'm racked with indecision. My parents like the fact that Wash U is ranked 12 and hate that NYU is ranked 34, but it's not about rank for me. If only I could have the advantages of both schools.

I would say that Stern is better for business than Olin. That said, I think you're right in realizing there's other things to consider as well. I've been to New York, and know that NYU doesn't really have a campus - the buildings are all spread out so you're basically going to college and living in the city at the same time. Whether this is good/bad depends on personal preference - on one hand the city is very exciting, but on the other hand, it doesn't have that "college community" feel because everyone relies on the city for their social life. Not to mention the costs, I guess. Life at WashU is wonderful - you'll never run out of things to do and the student body is very friendly.

At Olin you would almost definitely get more personal attention and small classes. As for prestige, I think Stern (not just NYU) is the way to go. Congratulations on both schools and good luck deciding!!
