I LOVE WashU- it's got fantastic programs in the fields I'm interested in, a gorgeous campus, that wonderful friendly "midwestern" vibe. It basically has everything I've ever wanted in a college but being from the midwest (and I do enjoy it) I've always wanted a change for college- does anyone know of a school on the east coast that captures the same amazing aspects of WashU?

Um. So this post is basically exactly how I feel about WashU. I want a WashU in New York, Boston, or DC, ugh. But I don't know where to help you since I'm in the same predicament :-

I would love that, I hate St. Louis!

Although it really depends on one's intended major, Princeton and Yale are two east coast schools that may capture the feel of Washington University.

I'm from Upstate New York and the area sort of captures the midwestern vibe. Maybe the University of Rochester?

If you are willing to consider the "east coast" of Texas, then look at Rice University-- a school with both Ivy League academics and an Ivy League caliber football team.

Efs001, you mentioned the U of Rochester...are you from the Rochester, NY area?

yeah, I am from the area

Efs001, we are from Brighton. What district are you?

Tufts, because it's near but not right in a big city and is about a quarter Jewish and has excellent academics. More of a NE than a Midwestern vibe, of course.

S felt that Brown had a similar feel to WashU.

Yeah I would second Tufts and Brown

haha brown, tufts, and washu have been my top three for years

I'm from Pittsford. I'm a Sutherland kid.

There ya go, Emorse, seems like you know how to pinpoint schools you like ;)

Efs001, we're practically neighbors. The best of luck to you!!

Haha, I actually went to a private school in Brighton for several years and have several friends at the high school.

It's funny, Brown, Tufts and WashU are some of my top schools as well. Those, GW and Georgetown :)

Interesting... I'd never thought of the feel of WashU being comparable to that of Brown. I've never visited either so I'm really curious. Could you guys expound on that?

I visited both WashU and Brown and they felt very similar... smart yet fun, warm, happy. Just my take.

When I visited the deserted campus (eve before Thanksgiving), it gave off the same vibe as UChicago except cheerier. Its elevated location facing Forest Park in the distance made it seem very majestic.
