Have you been admitted to both and let off a wait list? What is the context of the question?

I have a D at Barnard. A very close friend of hers attends Wash U so I know quite a bit about both, but your question is not detailed enough to give a reasonable answer.

What are you looking for?

admitted to both and just off wait list for wash u (CAS) will probably be premed but want to keep options open

If you want to go pre-med...I would definitely recommend WashU. WashU is one of the best universities in the country, and our pre-med program is unbelievable! I don't know enough about Barnard to tell you comparison points, but I do know that WashU has given me a million opportunities I wouldn't have anywhere else. Have you visited WashU or Barnard? That's what really sold me on the school, even though I wasn't considering it before.

Pre-med is not the issue here. Any strong college will prepare you well. There will be a lot of weeding out at both Barnard and Wash U (as there would be anywhere) in the low level sciences and many budding doctors will fall by the wayside. There is pervasive confusion on these boards that a college with a strong medical school will somehow offer a measurable advantage when eventually applying to medical school.

Barnard and Wash U are so incredibly different in personality, location, and the overall college experience this shouldn't be a hard decision. Go where you feel you'd fit in best. Academically and career-wise you'd be splitting hairs to argue any advantage of one vs. the other.
