Essay #2 - 7-8, I wrote about my Scouting experience, it was well written but doesn’t make me the most special person ever

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: My AP Lang Teacher, she was the best person ever, and she always noted my willingness to contribute to discussion when everyone else wanted to be silent. Hopefully she will have a lot to write about (8-9)
Teacher Rec #2: Physics Teacher/Robotics Coach, she knows me really well from class and robotics but I sucked at her class, but I head she writes the best Recs in the school so it felt like a shoe in (7-8, but honestly idk)
Counselor Rec: I have talked to her several times throughout high school, and she really notes my willingness to be well balanced in everything I do. This is probably the best one. (9-9.5)
Additional Rec: From Band Teacher, knows me really well (7-8) and from the provost of UT Martin, writing about me from Gov School. Would look good bc he’s in the university world (8.5)
Interview: Yes, interviewed wth Dean of Admissions, was really relaxed conversation and I thought it went really well.

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, but don’t really need it.
Intended Major: Government/Political Science, possible double major in engineering
State (if domestic applicant): TN
Country (if international applicant): N/A

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Not really sure. Perhaps being an Eagle Scout, or my activities being something I’ve done from a long time

Hi! Dad of a WashU 2021 student. I think you have a pretty good chance, and oddly enough your stats and GPA resembles my son’s. (2290 SAT and your GPA are the same).

He did ED and he’s happy. Even some of the activities you did are the same as his-he’s an Eagle Scout with Silver Palm and OA as well. I might be biased since you resemble him so much, except he didn’t do robotics.

He did his essays on music and his Eagle project as well. I think the dedication to Scouts helped him get admitted. Hope you make it too so he can meet a fellow Eagle.

Hamurtle, Thanks! I am most worried about my GPA - I heard that WashU puts a lot of emphasis on grades, and I’ve had a few rough patches when it comes to keeping my A’s. But it’s nice to hear that someone similar to me has gotten in - at least there’s a chance for me. And it’s great to hear of a fellow Eagle Scout!

The Lemon, they do put emphasis on grades but demonstrated interest in the school helps. He got emails from professors from a couple of programs he wanted to do-he’s thinking of a combination History/Biology major. Definitely keep in contact with your interviewer and any faculty. Check any WashU mail you get (email/snail mail) and reply with your interest.

The college credit is a good thing to have as well. My son did the Harvard Summer School program and got an A in a Cold War history class. I swear you’re almost a mirror image of him!
