@jmarshtomp I’ve been enrolled for over a month now and apparently each school reserves a certain amount of beds for transfers. (Arts and Sciences reserved 10 beds) So I guess the answer would be yes, but housing is first come first serve.

@Sammvp1 Ack, okay, thanks. I just got accepted now, though, so I hope there’s still space. Thanks! :)

I have been accepted to Olin! 2250 SAT and A average in high school. So excited!

Anybody facebook savy and want to make a Fall 2014 Transfer page for people transferring into Wash U this Fall?

@Sammvp1 I think the school will actually make one for us in late May or early June!

@mgumby22 Sweet! I keep trying to join the Class of 2017 group and I keep getting denied. It’s become a game for me at this point to finally get accepted. -__- Not a very fun game…

@Sammvp1 I was going to try to join too but figured they might deny me because I’m a transfer student oh well. I guess I can wait for our group to go up lol.

@Mgumby22 We’re still part of the class of 2017! We should definitely be allowed in. :(

@Sammvp1 I agree. Maybe once we actually start there they will let us join!

Congrats on your acceptances!!! I would think you would rather be a part of the 2018 group because it is very active and everyone is new. I would think the 2017 is not as active. Either way just contact admissions and they’ll add you to whichever group you’d like to be a part of. :)

So has anyone decided? And anyone have insight on how to rank the housing or if transfers are together?

I decided on April 1st. I know at least in Arts and Sciences they reserved 10 beds for transfers. I know the beds are in sophomore housing (they won’t put you with freshman or upperclassmen) but I don’t know if it’s with other transfers. But the housing is 1st come 1st serve so get your housing app in ASAP if you’re committed!

@2cents4u

@Sammvp1 what made you choose washu over emory? Deposit was made but how did you rank the housing? Have you been assigned anything yet? So sorry, I forget are you male or female? I spoke to someone from washu on phone who claimed she was the right person but she told me few soph live on south 40 and most are going into the new Loft apartments which according to friends there is completely false. Another junior who transferred there last year said she went to a special summer orientation weekend for transfers - have you heard anything about that?

@2cents4u About housing: I just submitted my deposit and I haven’t been assigned anything yet nor did I receive a slip telling me to make a housing deposit with my acceptance. I didn’t make it to the 10 reserved beds, I guess. I called housing once and also talked to the financial aid office as well as a past transfer student, and they said they aren’t sure where they’re going to house all the transfers yet, but if something opened up, they would let me know… One said they should know more this week, another said sometime in June. One somewhat implied that I would definitely not get housing, which is frustrating as I won’t know anyone or the area. I basically got a lot of conflicting information. I’m hoping for the best!

@2cents4u I chose Wash U as I believe it’s a better match for me overall. Wasn’t really feeling Emory that strongly.I have not been assigned to housing yet but I heard I’ll get my room assignment posted on my “WebStac” account on July 1st. I requested a Modern Single, but we’ll see where I end up. I’m Female… have not heard anything about the orientation weekend for transfers. I am visiting with an advisor in June, however, to help me figure out my classes. I’ve already registered for a bunch of classes on “WebStac” just so I’m not on the waitlist for all the classes I want to take.

@Sammyvp1 thanks for the quick info; I would definitely call and ask about the weekends -the transfer I know is a junior and she was adamant about going to that weekend- said it helped make friends, course selections, etc. She also said they were stingy with APs but generous with college course credit - did you get that info yet?

Also big congrats to all acceptances: According to CDS there are only 40 transfer students per year at WashU ( of 80 acceptances on 1400 apps) and that may include the foreign exchange students of whom this girl said there were a lot. So to all CCers, don’t despair; you will find a perfect spot for each of you.

FYI, there are also one week trips before school starts that would be mostly freshman but sound fun too.

In case anyone is still reading this thread - I spoke to first year office and they are not doing a transfer orientation summer program- they stopped last year, as they have so few transfers. Also getting contradictory info on housing and some of that is due to changes this year- they are tearing down one dorm so they are splitting the sophomores onto north and south campus with about 75 going into brand new Loft off campus apts mixed with upperclassmen. Did not appear to be making an effort to house transfers with other transfers or sophomores, but who knows. Also fyi- your general ed requirement are dramatically different based on your major and grad year - Olin BSBA GERs are coded differently from A&S, etc. so be sure you are on right list of attributes.

@2cents4u Thanks so much for the info! :)

So I’ve posted on here a couple of times but I just wanted to let you guys know that if you have any questions about St. Louis you can ask me! I’ve lived here all my life (except for this past year when I went away to college) and I’d be happy to tell you all about it! If you want, I can even show you around the city when school starts. WashU is in one of the best parts of the city, but there is plenty to explore away from campus as well!
