Hi. I am an international student from Korea planning to major in pre-law or political science.
Which school do would you prefer between Wash U and Berkeley? I am attracted to Wash U., but I am hesitant because it is not well-known in my country...At the same time, Berkeley is well-known but its large size does not really attract me. What should I do?

This is a debate that will never be settled, but I am of the view that you should never go to a school because people know its name better than another school.

Go where you feel you’ll get the best education, fit in more, etc. WUSTL’s reputation is solid, and is gaining more international recognition every year.

I’m sorry, but I just cannot fathom choosing a school because of what other people might think of my choice.

Agree with vbball90. If you already know that the large size of Cal does not attract you, then will you really be happy there? Students there really need to be self-motivated in order not to get lost in the shuffle or so I’ve heard. WashU on the other hand is VERY student-oriented. They won’t let you get lost. Besides - ask any doctor in your country about WashU med school - bet they will have heard of it…
