I am really into science, especially cell biology and neuroscience, and am thinking of being premed. I am trying to decide between Wash U, Duke, and Cornell. Its so hard because they are all good schools academically. Can someone help me compare Wash U to these other schools?

I would say Duke by a ways for premed followed by Cornell and then WashU.

You really can't go wrong with any of those schools because they are all excellent but I think you will have the best combination of research opportunities, academics, prestige etc. at Duke.

I would say Cornell and WashU are about equal. I agree, though, that Duke is a better school in almost every aspect. It's also going to be harder to get into.

Well I've already gotten into all of them. I'm just trying to figure out which would be best for me. But yeah I kinda figured Duke was slightly "better" than washu.

I got accepted at oth Duke and WashU too, and I'm almost certain I'm going to Duke. My main reason is that Duke is stronger in my fields (BME and pre-med) and I liked the atmosphere of the school a lot more. Plus it's a little bit better known but I wouldn't let that make you're decision. I don't have any real knowledge of Cornell other than it is a really strong school so I'ld visit all three and decide what fits best for you.

fritz is right. You should visit them all (if you can) and judge from there. They're all amazing schools. We know WashU students that chose it over Duke and Cornell. We also know students that were accepted at all three and chose to go to Duke or Cornell. Great position to be in. Way to go and Good Luck!

While they are all great schools, they are different in very many respects. From what I hear, Duke is more of a jock school and so if you like basketball games and partying, it is probably a better choice socially. You can also consider size; Cornell has an undergraduate population twice of WashU and Duke. Academically, they're all great. Pre-med will be rough at any school, but WashU is known for it's pre-med and sciences.

I have also been accepted to all three (well... kinda...Cornell likely letter) and I would choose Duke over the other two. They are all great schools, but Duke is better for pre-med. I'm not sure about cellular biology and neuroscience, but I know their biomedical engineering is much better than WashU or Cornell, which I think should translate into research opportunities. Also, I felt that I would fit better at Duke. When I visited, I liked the campus better plus felt like I had a connection to the campus (corny, I know). I also liked Duke students better. Everybody else that answered is right: you need to visit the different campuses to figure out which one is the right campus for you. You need to make the decision yourself because you're the one who will need to decide where you will be most successful the next four years of your life. Listen to your friends and family about which school they think is best for you, but you should ultimately make your own decision. Don't think too much about rankings because all three schools are great; go with your gut feeling.

i have friends at all 3, wash u comes out on top from what they have said. most free atmosphere that has a very high quality education yet with ppl that want to have fun.

Yea I have visited all three now. Cornell I felt was just too big, and it was really windy and I would hate to walk everywhere in that weather. Duke, I dunno I didnt get the best vibe when I was on campus, so it was never very high on my list. I'm going back next week for the blue devil days, so my impression may change. And WashU I really loved the campus, and everyone I've talked who goes there really loves it. Also I got a full ride to the University of Maryland College Park, and since I'm considering med school that seems like a good deal financially, and also I can get a good gpa there which will help for med school admissions. So yea I'm gonna visit duke again, and see where else I get in next week.

WOW flowersunshine...you have NO bad options! Congratulations!
