does anyone know where ED 1 admits can network with other admitted applicants?
not sure but i feel like there should be some facebook chat
Many of your are going to think I am a sore loser Mom and overly dramatic, but I don’t care. My kid had a 35 ACT and 1590 SAT and 3.99 GPA. - REJECTED Lots of Leadership experience, runs a student-led program at her school. She wrote stellar essays and has made the top at most of the colleges that she has applied with merit money (mostly state schools) with one exception - deferred at one off those overly holistic schools - you need to visit a million times schools. We are in the Midwest and no one from her school has ever applied or even been admitted into W & L. The Regional Rep never contact us, even after reaching out to him, so I called W&L. I felt like they were selling me. I should have went with my gut. . My older daughter had a boyfriend that went to W&L who encouraged my daughter to apply, said it was like an Ivy, but not a pretentious. Wow, I kind of think they might be. I know many of your feel differently, but I have other children been around teens for the past 10 years. This child is exceptional. She hasn’t had life changing, personal experiences because she is always going straight. I have other kids. I know this one is going places. With W&L, I doubt they even considered students that didn’t fit in their boxes, just want to increase there applicant number and $$$. I am personally in shock and after reading these posts and all your kids accomplishments that were denied (and my daughter not making the top 200 out of 2000). I think this was overly holistic, so you wouldn’t know the game even if you were given the rules. I think you needed to know someone there or perhaps don’t fall into a specific box that you have less of a change than someone else. I think we should start a rebellion against the process that is taking place with kids. It is creating stress, and frankly it is growing more ridiculous each year I’m in it with a child. I’m on my last child. and all I have to say is Thank You Jesus! And right grateful that my older daughter broke it off with her pretentious boyfriend.
@2Day1Day It sounds like your daughter was accepted into many schools and was just rejected by two. Congrats! So that is nothing to be stressed about. Yes W&L is a great school! It’s small so they are holistic needing school newspaper kids, theatre kids, athletes, class presidents, musicians, etc to fill the various roles around campus. Once you hit the mid 50% of a school’s ACT that’s good-they then look at other things! References from teachers, rigorous schedule with lots of tough AP’s in their major, a high school with a reputation for being solid etc. So it’s not as simple as you make it out to be. Honestly you calling the school (if you did before decisions were made) probably immediately took her off the list. Parents should not be calling because their student did not hear back from a busy rep. So good luck to your smart daughter, she will find a great spot on her own. But you need to back off and stop acting like she “deserved” getting in! W&L is a friendly place with happy kids and parents. They look for kids who fit into that.
We can agree to disagree. She already withdrew her application, so I didn’t need to do anything. I’m just mad that I had to pay them anything! I don’t feel the information provided was anything but a sales job.! For the rest of you, I’m sure you will get a good education -but to be honest never heard of this school before and wish we hadn’t!
I take it she didn’t get the Johnson, and I think it is just way more competitive. Word is out that WLU is a great school (it has come up the ranks 4 or 5 spots in just 5 years), plus not lots of schools offer a honest-to-goodness full-ride scholarship for merit. Of course the WLU admissions people will sell the school, and I think more and more kids will be applying. In fact, they sent a poster to my kid’s high school with her picture and a write up about the Johnson, and what happened? A bunch of kids applied.
