Does anyone have any insight into W&L ED2 admissions? I know the admissions chances are much better in ED1. But what about ED2? Any intel or insight would be helpful.

I have a DD22 sophomore at W&L who got in ED2 and my DS got into W&L ED1 for next year’s incoming class of '24. Both are athletes, and both had very high scores (DD 34 ACT and 3.8 UW GPA and 4.7 weighted GPA, 11 AP classes (5’s on all) and DS 35 ACT and 3.9UW GPA and 4.9 weighted GPA, 10 AP classes mostly 5’s on all ). Your statement is incorrect of admissions chances being higher in ED1 v ED2 as they are both treated as one ED round, and W&L does not post statistics in ED1 v ED2, just ED. You can look at the common data set to see in past years the number that applied ED and were accepted. Yes, chances are increased in ED over RD, but that is a skewed statement. Athletes are given support in the application process in exchange for an ED application and committing to the school and sport (this happens at all schools, not just W&L). These athletes have had academic pre-reads and have been pre-cleared by admissions as admissible students and barring any drastic changes from when they send the pre-read info to their application are almost guaranteed to get in in exchange for applying ED. That is how coaches fill rosters. Roughly forty percent of W&L students are athletes, so you get a big build of admissions then. Athletes are expected to have the same admission requirements to get in as non-athletes, in fact they tell you if you don’t have a 1450 SAT or 32 ACT you are not recruitable. More than 1/2 the class is accepted through ED, so this is important to remember when looking at why ED numbers are greater than RD for a smaller amount of kids and not the same percentage of admission as the general pool. You also get other students that bring something that the school is looking for, they have a particular hook. Admissions are holistic at W&L and they build a community based on what you bring to the school. Not just top grades/scores. So if you are on the admissions bubble, you have a better shot in ED if you have what the school is looking for on the lower end of stats and if you are tippy-top score-wise but do not bring anything special they need, you may not have as great a shot as you think. Does that help?

Thanks for the input. Son’s stats are high – top end of W&L on tests and upper end on GPA. So if ED2 is similar to ED1 in admit stats, he should be fine.

@middling good luck to your son, and hopefully, he will be joining my son in the W&L Class of '24! It’s an amazing place, and we cannot be more thrilled to have our second one enrolling there!

@fly4free Do you recall when the ED2 decisions came out for your daughter two years ago? My son is ED2 and we are in suspense every day! Hoping he’ll join your son in class of 2024!

@HelloFall I do - Friday, January 26th at 8:00pm. Good luck to your son! W&L is such a wonderful place!

So what do we think — Fri 24 or fri 31 for ED2 decisions?
