Washington College or Mount St. Mary's University

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between two schools on my list: Washington College (Chestertown, MD) and Mount St. Mary's University (Emmitsburg, MD). Both are great schools that really appeal to what I want.

I am an Honors/AP student with a 3.98 GPA, 1870 SAT (630 CR 550 M 690 W), and 29 ACT. I am coming from a small, Catholic high school.

I currently do not play sports, but I'm interested in picking up intramural cross country in college. I'm currently involved in NHS, Student Government, Newspaper, and Choir.

I am interested in studying English with an eventual goal of moving on to graduate school for journalism.

I want to attend a school with a nice campus, a lot of spirit, and a decent amount of activities. I understand that both schools are in what some have described as "the middle of nowhere" but I'd like a school that has some stuff to do on campus.

I'm posting this in the WAC forum so I know there may be a little bias toward WAC. What are the pros and cons of each school that you know of?

bump

I’m interested in this as well!

English is a strength at WAC. Don’t know about msm

My daughter is a freshman at WAC. Great school academically. However, Chestertown is not a place that is welcoming to the students. It has a lovely downtown during the day, but practically rolls up the sidewalks at 6 pm. My daughter is not much of a partier, but she finds that there is little else to do in town in the evenings and on weekends. Most of the social life centers around sports or Greek life.
