Washington & Jefferson

Does anyone have any information on w&j? Any comments on the campus, students...etc if you have visited? Thanks! It would be much appreciated....

I'm not a student at W&J, but I'm from just outside the Washington, PA area, and it is a very popular college for students from my High School. I have several friends who are currently attending. I work at one of the two malls in the Washington Area (I'll get to info about the malls/things to do later).

W&J’s campus is situated in “downtown” Washington, Pennsylvania. I hesitate to call Washington a city, but it’s not exactly a small town. I’m not a huge fan of the campus. I don’t think it’s very attractive. There are mostly brick buildings (which are pretty nice), but everything is pretty cramped. The part of Washington the campus is located in is hardly ideal. I would call it Washington’s “ghetto.” There are lots of rundown and abandon buildings, and when I drive through the area leading to the campus I am often taunted and propositioned by passers by. It’s very popular for pre-professional. I have a friend who is in her first year as a pre-med and she was one of only a few students to pass her first semester of chemistry. With that said, most of my friends are happy there. They all commute (like most W&J students), most either live at home or rent apartments near campus (there are plenty of affordable housing options).

I don’t know much about academics, other than what my friends tell me, but from what I understand W&J is highly respected by many graduate schools.

Washington is, in general, a pretty nice place. There are a lot of things to do, and it’s very close to Pittsburgh and Wheeling.

There are two malls, Washington Crown Center, and the “Old Washington Mall.” The “Old Mall” is pretty empty. Most of the businesses have moved to Crown Center or one of the surrounding shopping complexes. Rumor has it that the old mall is going to be town down, and replaced with an outdoor strip mall and some outlet stores. There is also a 6 screen movie theater located next to the mall. My friends and I call this the “Cheap Theater.” It shows only the most popular new releases and most shows are only $5. Personally, I hate this theater. It smells AWFUL and the bathrooms are filthy. Crown Center is the mall I work at. It was renovated a few years ago and houses several large department stores (Sears, Bonton, etc.) and many popular retail stores (American Eagle, Hot Topic, The Gap, FYE (the store I work at), Electronic Botique, and many others). There’s a great place to get coffee and desserts in the food court. There is also a newish 14 screen movie theater attached to the mall. It’s a bit more expensive than the 6 screen theater, but it’s much nicer. It has stadium style seating, a great snack stand, and is shows a ton of great movies. There is also a shopping center located near the old mall in an area known as “Trinity Point.” There is a Wal Mart, Sam’s Club, Target, Pet Co, PetSmart, and a lot of restaurants. My personal favorite is Cacuza Bella, a great all you can eat pizza and pasta buffet that costs only 5.99!

Washington also has a very popular minor league baseball team, The Washington Wild Things. The wild things have a brand new stadium, and games are always fun. The food is great, and the prices are fairly reasonable.

That’s all I can think of for now, but if you have any other questions about W&J or Washington, I’ll try to answer them, or ask my friends for help.

thank you !! :)
