Hey, I've started my application for the Questbridge College Match, and I'm wondering if anyone is thinking about listing W & L on their ranking. And if anyone knows what type of people or credentials get accepted their through college match? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hi! Well, I think Washington and Lee really looks for racial diversity among its applicants. It has been suffering in recruiting African American and Hispanic applicants. Even Asian applicants are a tiny portion, significantly underrepresented compared to other schools.

QuestBridge is a way for them to get a more racially diverse pool, and I think they’d want to take in primarily students of color through Match. Of course however, talented and academically strong students of color.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2012/aug/08/mus-students-earns-questbridge-scholarship-to/

They’d also like to just take academically strong students regardless of racial diversity. If you look at this and search Washington and Lee: [The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association](http://www.hamiltonfriends.org/winners2009.php)

The girl who got the Match had a perfect 4.0 GPA and a rigorous workload.

Well, since I’m Caucasian I guess that that girl gives me a bit of hope… Hopefully it’ll work. I think that I should be able to put together a pretty strong application together.

Aha! Found the exact numbers.

[W&L Sees Continued Increase in Early Decision Applicants :: News :: Washington and Lee University](http://news.blogs.wlu.edu/2013/01/07/wl-sees-continued-increase-in-early-decision-applicants/)

So 136 ranked W&L, and 14 have been admitted. That’s a little over 10% acceptance rate, which is quite good (compared to less than 1% at Stanford, Yale, etc.)

So do you think that I would have a better chance with questbridge or ED1?

With QuestBridge. If you don’t get in, you can still apply EDII to Washington and Lee.

Thanks! Do you know of anywhere I could find out the stats of the people from questbridge that got matched?

[2012 National College Match Recipient Profile](http://www.questbridge.org/for-students/ncm-match-recipient-profile) Here you go!

Keep in mind that even though the “White” % is so high, that is because most Latinos identify as “White”, since Latino isn’t a racial category.

Yeah, I kind of expected that. In in love with this school, so it would probably be the only college that I’d rank on match. So do you think it would be better to not rank schools and try for the first early decision or what?

Hmm, I think it’d be better for you to rank it first, and then also rank the non-bindings. By some sheer luck you might get into a school like Stanford or Yale, and it could be your back up in case Washington and Lee doesn’t work out. After national match, you can apply EDII for Washington and Lee.

I would also suggest filling out the Johnson Scholarship Essay.
