I'm really struggling to decide between Washington and Lee or Yale. Most people have told me it's a no-brainer in favor of W&L. I'm not so sure. Does anyone have suggestions?

So why did you put UPenn as the title of your thread????

sorry, i meant to say penn

The fact that your topic and post don't match (UPenn in title), and the fact that this is your first post make me doubt highly that this is a real question.

But I'll humor you; depends what you want in a school... if you want to party alot/have a huge frat scene then I would definitely suggest W&L... other than that I can't see the logic in it being a "no-brainer" for W&L

i agree, why is it a no-brainer?

The pollster is asking folks who don't know University of Pennsylvania.

If you got into UPenn then yes choose that. It is a very prestigeous school full of opportunities. It is the social ivy and you will get plenty of social interaction/partying plus the education. I applied to Upenn under early decision...

Im pretty sure he/she is joking

Might not be joking. Somebody was on here last year that I think was honestly convinced that Montgomery College, which is a community college outside of DC, was ranked as one of the best CC's in the country and on a par with UNC-CH.

SweeTea.......not kidding is my guess.

polo es trollo :)

W&L is an outstanding liberal arts college. It has all of the advantages of a liberal arts college. Currently it is a real party school in a very big way. The student body is, in general, conservative and Republican. Penn (or Yale) is without a doubt one of the most prestigious colleges in the country. The students are very committed to academics. Most people, if accepted, would take Yale (or Penn) in a second over W&L. Of course, this doesn't mean that W&L is not a very good school.

Montgomery College is better than UPenn, by a long shot

No Joke, Montgomery College in the DC metro is on par with Harvard and a little above Yale. Period. No argument. For the first two years of college there is no better college then Montgomery College. Way better than NoVA CC

w&l is a great school. however, i do advise you to visit (and stay over) a night there. It is a small and very homogenous school. as a friend of mine from high school went there, and fit the mold, i'm sure there are no schools in the country better for him than w&l. however, if you don't fit the mold, it could be a very long 4 years. Other than that, you can't go wrong in either choice.

btw, the girls at w&l are without a doubt hotter than the girls at penn or yale. just a little bit more info

Part of the question you need to ask yourself is what kind of environment do you want to spend the next four years in. W & L is a small (about 1750 undergrads and about 400 law school students), southern LAC located in the small town of Lexington VA, about 3 hours south of DC. In other words, rural and isolated. UPenn is a large (about 9800 undergrads and 7000 grads), urban Ivy League university located smack dab in the middle of one of the largest cities on the East Coast. The student body at W&L tends to be conservative and homogeneous. The student body at Penn tends to be liberal and is very, very diverse. W&L has an open, grassy, leafy LAC style campus. Penn's campus is attractive, but urban, full of large buildings one next to the other, and crowded with students. Both schools are academically intense, and you'd get a great education at both, but, based on GPA and SAT scores, the average kid at Penn is probably a little brighter (sure I'll get bashed for that observation). Anyway, I think you get the point. I'd say visit both schools. Talk to some students. See which school fits you, then go there.
