Hi there! I currently attend a school in the SEC and am looking to transfer to a smaller, classier school. W&L was one that I looked at when I was in high school, but was convinced that I wanted a large school with a good football team; I now know that is not the case. My question is, how well do W&L transfer students do with adjusting? I know that the school is small - are transfers viewed as “outsiders” by the rest of the student body (since the entire student body knows each other for the most part)? Are transfer students at a disadvantage when it comes to applying for leadership opportunities? Are there any W&L transfer students that have any advice?

Thanks!
You’re asking good questions that I would encourage any others thinking about transferring to ask. That being said, given the small size of W&L, you’d be wise to look at some other LACs as well if you are sure you want to transfer, simply because the amount of spots in any given year at W&L would be limited. Good luck in your search!
W&L is a very welcoming school. Being small, it is close knit and you will quickly meet people in your classes and other activities. Greek life is active but students have friends outside of and across the Greek system. Good luck!
One of Ds housemates was a transfer in their second year. Had no trouble joining sorority and fitting in. While groups will have formed to some extent, unless things have changed, most parties and events are open to all even if not in that sorority or frat. This girl was very successful and got into first choice med school.
Good to hear! If you feel comfortable sharing - where did she transfer from?
