Washington Post: "Students Can Rest Easy Now"

I really got a kick out reading about this latest college trend, and competition for the student body. I really can't help but think of my S' dorm room, which is about the size of a postage stamp and not exactly decked out with the comforts of home or hotel.

University officials hoping to keep students on campus and compete with off-campus housing are trying new room designs and all manner of amenities to appeal to the millennial generation, especially those seeking the comforts of home while in school. Some have given single rooms to students not used to sharing. Others have offered maid service and microwaves. Now they're giving them a larger space on which to lay their heads....

Ah, yes. The ol' maid service. I'm still waiting for it to come to MY house. (I already have butler. ;))

When I was at Oxford, I had a "scout". He was from the Basque region of Spain and his English..., but then he wasn't very fond of my Brooklyn accent either. Anyway, I found out about him when, on the first morning I was there, I couldn't find my shoes. Found them outside the door, old pennyloafers, shined so that they looked like the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz. We then made a deal: I wouldn't shine his shoes if he wouldn't shine mine. (I expect, though, he would have got a kick out of my shining his shoes - except it isn't something I'm particularly skilled at.)
