I am a senior in Washington state. I have a 2.3 gpa and a 1600 sat score. I don’t want to go to a community college. WSU? EWU? Any chances? I have several ap classes including calculus and physics
With your SAT score alone, you are well within the median range for both WSU and EWU. In fact, at EWU, your SAT scores would place you at about the 73rd percentile. With regards to GPA, however, you are in the very bottom tier. While you have a slim chance of getting in, I wouldn’t count on acceptance. The AP classes may help, but I can’t be sure, especially without more information.
One thing you need to consider: was there a reason for your low grades? A college will be more willing to overlook a bad GPA if they know it was due to some sort of hardship you had to go through. If there’s a real reason for your grades being that low (living in a bad neighborhood, struggling with poverty, having to work to support your family, the death, illness or incarceration of a family member, etc.), I think both WSU and EWU would look at your application in a more favorable light. Even if your grades have made a dramatic improvement since your freshman year, that would help, as it would show that you worked to improve over time.
Either way, the long and short of it is that both EWU and WSU would be a long shot for you, based on those two stats alone. Obviously, they don’t paint the whole picture of an application, but without a serious explanation for that GPA, I think your chances are rather slim.
