Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2016

Hey guys, I just happen to stumble upon a UChicago Class of 2016 thread, and I figured it was high-time someone started a thread for Wash U. College admissions season is coming up, and we're about to be very very busy, and I hope this thread will help all of us who plan to apply here. Feel free to ask anything, or state anything that you think could help us all out. We'll all be competing for the same spots, but that doesn't mean we can't help each other out along the way.

How have you guys shown “interest”?

I think the biggest thing you can do if you plan to apply is to complete the pre-application/common app supplement that’s on their website. That means they’ll make a little folder for you and keep anything you send them in it, like transcripts and stuff. Also, visiting is a pretty big deal where showing interest is concerned.

Oh dear god this is terrifying and makes me feel old.

Hahaha, same.

Did you guys know that this year the word limit on the common app essay is 500 words?

What exactly is the pre-application? Is it just to show interest or is it actually part of the application process? If so, is it part of the ED?

It’s Wash U’s mandatory supplement for any round of admissions.

//Did you guys know that this year the word limit on the common app essay is 500 words?//

Mine was like, 350, and after I made it longer. I don’t think 500 words is an actual limit, but many people write essays that are too long and not interesting enough to justify their length. I think it’s good.

Just looked at my common app essay. 942 words. Looks like I’ll need to cut it down a bit…

So far, I have sent in the Pre-application (did in back in March/April), visited, and emailed my admissions officer back and forth. Also, I will be interviewing there and attending a summer program there for 3 weeks later this month. I wish I could apply ED to solidify my interest, but I am in no financial position to do that. :(

How many of you guys are doing ED?

Yeah, starting this year there is a legitimate 500 word limit for the common app essay. Sooo lame because mine is about 100 words over.
Also, I think I’ll be going to the open house on August 16, or maybe Sept 12.

Just a question- on the “Getting to Know You” survey, do you put down your superscore for the SAT/ACT?

I submitted my supplement in May, sent my SAT scores, and am visiting in a week. Too bad they don’t offer on-campus interviews on Saturdays.

I like how we can access the WUSTL Pathway way before the Common App comes out. :P

Yeah I registered for the Pathway today! I didn’t know it made it so easy to track all of the materials I have sent in already. I am glad :)

I started to fill out the getting to know you survey and then stopped because my senior year sched wasn’t definite and now it isn’t under pathway. fail! I really wanted to fill it out actually… I am visiting washu for discovery weekend? Is anyone else? I think it will be fun.

When is Discovery weekend? If I visited last year when school was in session, should I go to Discovery weekend too?

Anyone done an interview or considered doing one? I’ve visited twice; I love the school and am wondering if an interview would be that one little thing to really show them my interest. The fact that there’s no supplementary essay obviously cuts down on the personal touch.

Is Discovery Weekend still invitation-only? And if so, have the invitations been sent yet?

I got a postcard about discovery weekend, but haven’t gotten the invite yet. I’m pretty sure it isn’t hard to get invited to, just because well it is washu and their admissions office will probably want you there if you have filled out the pre app.

Do they only do interviews on campus?

was anyone else not able to fill out the questionnaire thing?
