Without a doubt, the class of 2017 is all but entirely filled.

I really hope you’re wrong. :(

I wouldn’t be that certain…none of us have received rejections yet, have we? But of course the chances of getting in are so low anyway, so I’m not holding my breath in any case.

You haven’t received rejections yet, but I’m sure officially closing the waitlist is a very low priority at this time.

RaVNzCRoFT what makes you so sure the class is full? I’m pretty sure only admissions officers at WashU have this information…

Because it is the middle of May and the admissions officers are very concerned with filling the class sooner rather than later. If nothing else, chances of getting accepted from the waitlist are extremely tiny.

RaVNzCRoFT In other words you’re just guessing there’s no more space and have no real numbers to back up your claim (I’m not trying to be mean…I just want to know what you’re basing your claims on)? Have their been rumors at WashU about how the yield was this year and how many kids will get off the wait list. Thank you very much…and sorry if it seems like i’m questioning your knowledge…

No offense taken. Sorry if I came across as claiming to be an authority on any of this stuff. It’s just that I’ve observed this whole process for several years now so I think I have a decent idea of how these things tend to work. But I certainly admit that I’m not an admissions officer so nothing I say is guaranteed to be correct. ;)

In most cases, they fill the entire freshman class with RD acceptances. When they did need to use the waitlist (which I think might have only happened once that I can remember), they seemed to fill the class pretty quickly. Basically, it works like this: the admissions officers know approximately how many students will accept their RD offer, right? So through the yield statistic, they can get pretty close to the ideal freshman class size. Say, for example, 1450 if they’re looking for 1500 students. Then they go to the waitlist, which they also have yield statistics for. They know approximately what percentage of students have accepted a spot from the waitlist in the past, and they probably even have information on how the yield changes as it gets deeper into the summer. So after the second round of acceptances, it’s very likely that they’ll have the entire class filled by now. If not, they’re probably very close. If they’re looking for something like 10 or 20 students and there are 10,000 people on the waitlist, the chances are (unfortunately) minuscule.

RaVNzCRoFT Thank you very much for your response.

@RaVNzCRoFT Well I just hope that the trend is broken this year and more might be accepted!

Have any of you guys (or your guidance counsellors/college counsellors) tried email a WashU representative regarding the status of the wait list? If so, did they give you any insight into whether there will be a second round and when? I tried calling but all they say is that we’re still assessing the numbers. Thank you!

I have 0 idea where they stand on the waitlist. Chances are, it’s completely filled and they won’t be calling anyone else, but I have no personal knowledge.

That being said, for those of you interested, just realize that this week is commencement week. Although it’s admissions you’re interested in, EVERYONE on campus is doing something for graduation right now. It’s crazy busy/hectic. (For example, there were several admissions reps at some of the events today, because they do develop personal relationships with students and graduation week is a big deal). So don’t be surprised if they take some time in getting back to you.

Anybody think some decisions will come out tomorrow…i’m not getting my hopes but I think if they don’t take ppl off tomorrow for a second round…they won’t at all because it’s been over a week since the first round of wait list acceptees had to respond back regarding the wait list.

Tomorrow is graduation. It seems unlikely that anything will happen tomorrow, which means the earliest would be Monday.

My dad is an APAP member and he received an email yesterday stating that WASHU has taken some names from the waitlist and that the class of 2017 is now full. They will be releasing the waitlist in a few days.

FltoWashu What is APAP? Also could you possibly copy and paste the email? Thanks so much

APAP in a group of Alumni and Parents of Current Students. They host events, do interviews, assist new students families, answers question of prospective students. I dont have a copy but the way it was worded, Class 2017 is full. They are just in the process of releasing the waitlist which I think means disbanding the list.

Well… I called admission office today and the admission officer said that its not full and they are still considering… But I guess news from APAP is more accurate right…
I hope they let in more students though…

hotspurs, did the admissions office say the class is not full or did they say they are still considering their numbers…because those are two different things.

Well she said they were not done yet… so I presumed…
Sorry for giving false hope but I think not done is quite similar to not full…
But again seeing FLtoWashu’s post I’m starting to lose hope myself…
This waitlist process is brutal…
