haha yeah when i type on my itouch i always type weird lol. and naw u didnt make many grammatical errors at all :D

haha i dont think i am going to vandy though, haha but it seems like a great school! So beta chi are the indians? haha im glad you like our culture. Diwali shows and bhangra are amazing.

No I’m at parsons right now but trying to transfer to Barnard, haha basically I was doing BME at vandy and decided to change careers oh that’s sooo funny you should mention bhangra! I danced bhangra last year at the Diwali show!! Haha. Beta Chi is the Indian fraternity on campus and they’re pretty big!! They throw a lot of awesome parties and have cool formals and out of town trips all the time. And yes I love Indian culture obviously. There are really good Indian restaurants near campus and the tradition among my friends is to have Sunday brunch at Sitar. Hahaha!! And we religiously participate at vandy Holi every year. My farewell party was even held at an Indian restaurant. I’m Filipino-Chinese. HAHAHA!!! My friends at Vandy consist of Indians, Jews, a lot of Asians and Hispanics, and a few white and black peeps. It took again an entire year and a half to find an awesome diverse group of open minded people. They’re there but at first glance vandy is all white frat boys and sorority girls… It was so dominant that I, uh, tried rushing my freshman year. No lie. I always laugh at those times. Oh dear lord. Hahahaha!!

For what its worth I have a friend from high school who went to Vanderbilt for freshman and half of sophomore year. She’s mixed (black & white). She transfered home a few months ago and said she wasn’t too comfortable at Vandy because the segregation was so prevalent. This is a girl who hung out with just about anyone in high school - white, black, asian - so I imagine being in a place where many races don’ mingle was kind of difficult. She also described a few incidents but I don’t remember exactly what happened.

Aside from regional diversity, which Rice can work on, it’s pretty well-known for ethnic/socioeconomic diversity and student interaction. Here are some links to back this up:

Rice truly is a fantastic school, and they have SOOOO much money to give to their students just to do stuff (especially to fund research projects). If I were you, I’d try to get off that waitlist at Rice and go there over Vanderbilt and WUStL (unless finances come into this). I can’t really help you decide now between Vandy and WUStL though, since my WUStL knowledge is limited. Also, since you mentioned UChicago, UChicago > Vandy and WUStL as well. I dunno if UChicago > Rice though. I’m a Rice admit, and a Chicago applicant. If I have to decide between the two, I’m going to have a REALLY hard time choosing. Good luck with your decision!

which track of international area studies are you interested in? if it’s in Germanic or Japanese culture/literature/language (East Asian Studies), Wash U is pretty good.
(I personally love the Japanese department here. Rumor has it that we have a really good Japanese program…idk. My friends in German department love it too.) I don’t know about the other tracks…

unsaid crap- have visited both campuses now

vandy- i think you will lose a lot more credits than transferring to wustl. it has an atmosphere way more social than wustl and has sports (i love sports) it is really hard to transfer there as a junior bc most social things are based around greek life. pledging is an absolute ***** at vandy and if youre a jr, you really only have a year left after you pledge. it is right in the city tho so you can meet a lot of people at bars probably. the city is another huge plus for me at vandy

wustl- awesome people, a lot nerdier student body, not as much social life which may make it boring at times. beautiful campus but not an amazing city (st. louis) i felt it has a more personable and comfortable atmosphere than vandy… there is kind of an inferiority complex bc not many know of wustl which is annoying…forest part (bigger than central park in ny) is right across the street which was a plus for me…

for me it will be an extremely hard decision and i am still waiting on other schools (please answer my prayers cornell) my main issue with vandy is how hard it is to get mixed in with the social scene and my main problem with wustl was the lacking of a big social scene. as far as academics go, i think they are both amazing schools and will help you go wherever you want.

p.s. if you’re a guy and care about having a student body of girls that are good looking… vanderbilt is beautiful. i went to ucsb and vandy tops it haha. for the record however, this will not have any influence in my decision at all- im not a superficial idiot.
