WashU Dorms

Okay so I figure I should start filling out my housing application and I read the descriptions. They seem to have similar facilities. Thus, I was curious to know which of the dorms has the best location,is the quietest, and has other benefits.

I heard from someone on this forum that ligett/koenig has some noise issues in the morning due to construction. I'd really like to avoid this because at times I'm a light sleeper.

I'd prefer living in a new dorm as well... any suggestions?

Did you get your housing information/materials already? I was accepted ED and haven't gotten it yet.

Unless they've changed things, you don't have any choice in which freshmen dorm you get except in preferencing modern vs. traditional (or if you have a physical disability).

As for the construction, I think Lien, Ruby, LK, and Lee probably have it the worst in the morning, but it's really not all that bad.
Besides, the majority of construction will be done by the time you get here.

Wait where did you get this housing stuff? Did WashU send it or did we have to print it out or something...

Yeah, you can't request specific dorms. You can rank preferences for modern/traditional and single/double/triple, but no guarantees. I wouldn't worry too much...they all have some benefits. And I've never heard anyone say they hated their dorm for some reason related to location or anything like that.

JakaAmalgam: Wash U will send it to you, you don't have to print it out. They send things out at different times...I didn't get my t-shirt until way after a lot of people.

Don't live in Koenig or else you'll wake up at unholy hours in the morning and night at super-sensitive fire alarms that shriek when there's a bit too much steam in the showers. But if you don't mind that bimonthly quirk, Koenig is really the most convenient place to live being closest to the main campus and food and having the most gorgeous dorms ever.

You should remember that the construction will be moving around...just because Ligget/Koenig has construction near it now doesn't mean that won't change next year. I can't give you any specifics as I don't live on campus, but Ligget/Koenig (Lien/Gregg is also good, I think) are the best because, as SilverWing said, they are closest to campus and the dorms are modern.

LIES! Koenig is not the closest to campus.

(and the dorm rivalries begin)

But seriously, for the most part, everyone LOVES their freshmen dorms and floors, even if it wasn't their first choice (if they were hoping for LK and got, say Wayman Crow or whatnot, etc, or if they got traditional and wanted modern, etc.)

D is in Dardick (a modern dorm) & loves it. Seems very cohesive.

Does anyone know where you can see pictures of the modern and traditional rooms. I cannot find anything on the school site other than a description.

Try this tour video:

<a href="http://www.*****.com/washington_university_in_st._louis/videos/15580/%5B/url%5D">http://www.*****.com/washington_university_in_st._louis/videos/15580/</a></p>

Doesn't give you much of a look inside the rooms, but the style is pretty representative as far as I can tell. In the album, there's a tour of a traditional dorm building (labeled "subfree") along with a tour of a modern dorm building, which I think is Dardick (not sure though). He goes inside a sophomore single on the third video, and of course a double room for freshman would be a bit larger than the room you see there.

Hopefully that helps to give you some idea, although it's not quite a replacement for a tour :)

EDIT: Um, ok... well anyway that was at U n i g o .com.... not sure why that word would be blocked, ... didn't know it was a word actually...

Above posters are right--you can't choose a specific dorm; just specific traditional or new--and you will be very happy with whatever you got. S got exactly what he DIDN"T ask for, and he was very happy.

Here's a link to the facebook page of one of the Dardick floors (with pix of the rooms (scroll down). Pix show one bed lofted with desk underneath and one on the floor. Desks have all kinds of leaves that open up (or not). The shot with the 2 doors shows the closets. The shot with the shelves is the entryway to one of the two rooms that make up the suite - each entry has those marvelous shelves for misc. items. Just to the near side of those shelves would be the bathroom entry (which is linked to the other room in the suite on the other side. Dardick House (2008-2009) | Facebook

That page also has a link to the Wayman Crow website (which is what the Dardick (freshman) and Nemerov (Sophomore) dorm combo is called. Shows activities, etc.
