WashU ED Football Athlete

Got an email back from WashU regarding ED, coach said that admission looks solid however only in the Arts and Science school. My son wants to go Olin for finance/accounting. Does anyone have any insight on how to proceed? We were told to go Economics and then take classes at the business school.

Hi @Vman
I am a freshman athlete studying in the school of Arts and Sciences – the flexibility here means that anyone can get a second major/minor in Olin. I am studying economics/political science right now and my plan is to have a second major in finance by the time I graduate. Another route that many students take at WashU is to transfer from Art Sci to Olin after their first semester (as long as you have above a 3.0 it is guaranteed), though personally I prefer having Art Sci as my main school because it has more options. If I can answer any more questions let me know.

Hi there, thank you for your response. Is it that easy to transfer to Olin from the school of Arts and Sciences? I was under the impression and from what I have been told is that admittance would be to the Arts and Sciences college as an econ major and that you can take classes at Olin for a minor in finance. My son would like to pursue a finance major with possible double in accounting. Thanks Vman.

Transferring between the different schools is pretty easy. I would do the Arts and Sciences and transfer to Olin sophomore year.

Hi Hamurtle, can you expand on the thought process regarding that a little bit versus going direct into Olin from freshman year? Thanks Vman

Does anyone know the details on doing a transfer into Olin sophmore year? If accepted to Arts and sciences initially?

Probably maintaining a good enough GPA (above 3.0 in Arts and Sciences) should be fine for a transfer from Arts and Sciences to Olin.
