Anyone who has been accepted and is going the High School Summer Scholars program at Washington University in St. Louis during Session A for 2008, I have created a Facebook group for you to sign up and stay connected with everyone else.

I went to HSSP last summer and i had a blast. You will meet so many new people and it's just one of those things you will never forget. I have friends from hssp that I still keep in touch with and about 15 of us are actually going to washu next year. I don't know anything about the Lopata house, last year we stayed in Lee. But, a word of advice, most likely you will not run out of money on your meal card. You do not need to worry about buying extra food to conserve your money. Many kids last year had 3 days or so left and still had $100 + on their meal cards. You don't realize in the beginning that you don't eat every meal at washu- you'll go out to dinner every once in awhile or skip breakfast on the weekends. If you have any other questions, just let me know! Also, I will be attending washu next year and i'm going back this summer for FSAP- the freshman summer academic program, basically hssp for incoming freshmen. you'll probably fall in love with washu- i know i did.

How is the work load with the college courses compared to high school courses? Im signing up for macro and micro economics, and i am really worried about the intensity of the classes. I live in saint louis, so i am somewhat familiar with the campus and everything.

mdel411- i already sent you an email, but i will respond here just in case others want to read.

Basically, you don't have much to worry about. The classes were generally manageable for most kids. My classes were no harder than my AP classes in high school. I would actually say that one of my classes- micro econ- was easier than my AP's. But, the difficulty level depends on the teacher. Also, you'll have tons of fun over the 5 weeks, but make time to study. Do your homework, get enough sleep to stay awake in class, and study for your midterms and you should do quite well!

also, you can take your classes pass/fail if you need to- there's a deadline but i think it's after a week or two, so you have time to decide. and, if you know that a class won't work for you, you can drop it and add another. but you should do that within the first couple of days. and, you choose whether or not to send your summer transcript to washu or any other school's admissions committee. so, if you dont think your ending grades will reflect well on you, you don't have to report them.
