bumppppp anyone else?

extrasyoervery – the strength of faculty changes veeeerrrrryyyyy slowwwwwwly. But in the case of three schools, yours is actually be a relevant point – NYU, USC, WashU… the poster children of rapid change over the past 20 years. For those three, I expect the updated NRC rankings to show big improvements.

-Academic (areas of strength, flexibility) At Cornell there will be about 800 students in your intro Bio lecture and lab - spread across a few sections of course, and you will be competing with all of them on a curve. Once you get beyond this there are many forks in the road and branches on the tree.

-Campus Life : Always too much to do at Cornell. Lots of Greek life. Very diverse, unless you are a total drone you will find kindred souls.

-Off Campus: You will never need to leave campus, if you do Ithaca is “10 square miles surrounded by reality” . There are more restaurants per capital in Ithaca than NYC.

-Dorm/Campus/Food : Cornell -very good, very highly rated but it does depend somewhat on the venue/dining hall.

in terms of washu, I heard that you can switch between schools relatively easily. I talked to someone and she started off pre-med. she told me she simply had to fill in a form to switch from school to school and now she’s in econ

i here a lot of people pulling for cornell. i live by wash u, and my parents work there, so ill let you know of my bias before hand
academic- if youre thinking medicine, wash u has a FANTASTIC premed program. however, it is competitive. not cutthroat, but notoriously difficult. ALso they have a lot of opportunities for undergraduate research. i work there over the summer, and with the right researcher you can get a great experience with an enthusiastic, internationally recognized researcher. I know Cornell has good biology, but as far as premed is im sure they are good but im not entirely sure.

Campus Life- In terms of the students that go to wash u and the way they interact with one another, wash u is a great place. however, it lacks school spirit and school identity, at least thats what i felt from the visit there. however, the ppl were down to earth, intelligent, and universally friendly

off campus- st louis has its ups and downs. the loop and central west end are fantastic. i wouldnt go down town except for the fox, powell hall music, or a cardinals game (which are fantastic, btw). my friend praises cornell however. he grew up in ithaca and loved it. its a great larger town/small city, but does not have nearly the same resources that a place like st. louis will have. but i would say the scenery at cornell wins. forests and mountains beats the farms 40 miles out of st louis any day.

dorm/campus/food- i would give beauty to cornell, but wash u still has a nice campus. the dorms at wash u are new and awesome. super nice. the food is varied and really good quality.

I would say that Cornell is just as good a place to be a pre-med as WashU. Hell, Cornell produces more students who go on to get a MD or a PhD in the life sciences than any other school in the country.

I agree, although I think the pace of change is mostly focused on student quality and the undergraduate experience, and not necessarily the reputation of all academic fields. That said, there are some notable exceptions, like the quality of NYU’s economics department, but even then, it is hard to say how much better the economics experience has been for NYU’s undergrads.

Okay, I haven’t eaten at Cornell, but this is my experience about the food at WashU:

-Omelet Bar, you can put in anything you want (seriously, meats, veggies, cheese)
-fryer, onion rings, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, anything you can fry.
-sushi
-pastas, diff sauces, add in meats/veggies
-breakfast cereals, yogurts, drinks, etc.
-grill, all types of burgers
- good vegetarian options/kosher options, salad bar

another great aspect of WashU’s food is that the chefs who cook the food are extremely nice and are willing to cook your food however you want it. Even ask for things that aren’t on the menu. For example, you could ask them to put chili on your burger or pasta and they would seriously do it.

I am not familiar with WUST, but Cornell seems to be a great place to go for college. I always found the food great, strong academics and a thriving campus scene.

did you ever consider this is probably because Cornell has a lot more students than WashU does? (2x)
Cornell: 13,510 undergrad
WashU: 6,904 undergrad

Anyways, Cornell is a lot stronger in engineering, but WashU has the edge for premed. WashU also has a fantastic business school and Cornell has the top ranked hotel-management school. Also WashU’s med school is known for it’s research orientation and if you’re into that that’s the way to go. Cornell is a more ‘natural’ campus (not saying WashU’s is bad it’s great). Also Cornell has a lot more partying (greek life is huge), St. Louis parties are laid back and everyone is really chill.
