washu interviews

Would it ruin my chances if I declined to do a washu interview? I already visited the school and I've been to an info session and a college visit at my school.

If Wash U is currently your dream school, by all means do not miss the chance to interview. My daughter toured and interviewed in August, had a really wonderful experience with a great admissions officer and she got a very early Christmas present of early announcement of admission even though she applied regular decision.

^ Seconded. I interviewed in June, and had a fantastic time touring the campus. In addition, my interviewer was very, very well-trained and informative- she did much to move WashU to the top of my list.

I certainly would try to interview; as you're in Kansas, it wouldn't take more than 4-5 hours to get there from the KC area. (or around half an hour flying, ha)

how did she already find out?

D got a letter which arrived on 12/19 telling her congratulations that she is accepted to the class of 2013. They periodically choose to do early announcements to some of their applicants even though they don't have to. The admission offer specifically said it was nonbinding and that she has until May 1 to decide, so she did not accidentally get put in the ED pile.
Her interviewer was terrific and just by pure chance is a vice chancellor of admissions. He told her that he would be reviewing her file as well as the regional office for our area since she interviewed with him. He followed up her visit with a post card and hand written note and even sent her an email after he found out an answer to an important question she had. Now that is how to do business. They are truly the most amazing and responsive school we have seen.
So I repeat, if Wash U is high on your list, you are crazy not to visit and interview

I had an interview with a current student (when I visited campus last spring), is this given the same "weight" as an interview with someone such as the "vice chancellor of admissions"? I was just under the impression that students rather than admissions officers gave the interviews at WU.....

I have no idea. I think the reason that she was so fortunate was that she interviewed in August when very few students were around to do interviews. The only students we had contact with were doing tours. I also did not see many other students sitting around waiting for interviews either except for one boy who did wear a nice blue blazer, shirt, tie and khakis. I think the business dress for success is a good idea there,in case you are wondering. My d wore a nice dress and flats. (she did change into less formal and cooler attire for the tour, though)
When my d visited, she had not yet applied so they had no background information on her that would have given her any priority in who her interviewer was, if they even do this for students with good resumes. It was truly a lucky draw for her.

When I went for Discovery Weekend, I remember I had an interview with some students, but there were some others that were interviewed by admissions officers. I think it simply had to do with the large amount of students interviewing as opposed to the small number of admission officers available during those two days.

I interviewed with an admissions officer, too, and it was definitely my best interviewer. I definitely don't think I'm a strong enough applicant to get an early acceptance....if I get an acceptance at all....
