WashU or SLU?

I am getting ready to pick a school for undergrad in the next couple of days and I am stuck dead center between going pre-med at Washington University in St Louis or going into the Medical Scholars Program at Saint Louis University. Basically, at SLU, if I get a 3.5 g.p.a all four years and sit for the MCATS (meaning my score doesn't matter) I will very very likely have spot in their med school(unless I fail at the interview process). At WUSTL, I will be like any other pre-med student. I'll have to apply to medical school my junior year and take the MCATS like any other student, but WUSTL is so highly ranked that im absolutely torn. Can anyone give me any insight that would help me make this decision?

Unless there are financial concerns that you didn’t mention, this is not even close. WUStL is your choice.

BTW, SLU’s MSP is NOT a sure thing. Ask them up front how many are in the MSP and how many are accepted to their medical school from the program each year.

Well my fear is that I won’t be able to get into med school from washu and i will have thrown away the perfect opportunity at slu because it would be so much less stressful to only have to maintain a 3.5 and not worry about the MCAT

Seeing as med school and the boards are orders of magnitude more stressful than trying to maintain a 3.5 and the MCAT, it might be worth the practice.

SLU is not even remotely on the same level as WUSTL for undergrad and there was a thread on this forum about the horrors associated with MSP and the realization that you’re not guaranteed a spot and now you’re coming out of SLU instead of the much better school you could have gone to.

This is the thread I am referencing: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pre-med-topics/1181903-disappointment-need-help.html?highlight=slu

Son accepted to SLU Med Scholars with Scholarship. Turned down offer. When we met with senior Med Scholar students, they quoted a 30% retention rate by senior year. This is too low of a rate to attend SLU for undergrad.

just to update you all, decided on WashU and cannot be happier with my decision! Thank you all for your help!
