Couldn’t find one of these…so here we are!
Any idea when they will start calling for scholarship notifications?
Posted on threads from last year, some people received calls for scholarship notifications on 2/20/18 with Finalists Weekend being March 22nd. This year, Finalist Weekend is March 28th I think. I’m guessing calls could be as early as tonight (Tuesday after President’s Day) or possibly next week (a month before finalist weekend) - but just a guess. Fingers crossed…
Does anyone know from prior experience whether they call all scholarship applicants, or only the successful ones? Are the unsuccessful ones at least notified by email/snail mail, or left hanging?
I believe they only call the successful ones. And everyone else gets an email/update on the portal later.
I believe all scholarship applicants have been notified. If you are unsure, check your admissions portal. Good Luck Everyone!
On mine it says not qualified for scholarship
Besides I don’t really expect a pretty large amount of acceptance through RD round
What’s the acceptance rate can be for RD?
New to this board… why would you think that RD acceptance is particularly low? SAT and GPA are what they are… whether applied as ED or RD. What am I missing? My daughter only has a so-so shot to get in with GPA of 3.85 and SAT of 1400, but I would have hoped she would be evaluated the same no matter how she applied.
@ProudWADad Based on last year’s results, overall admit was 15%. Since ED admit was 42%, one would assume that RD admit was quite low (total of 4,600 admitted between 2). This year, ED1 and Ed2 admit is 36% with1080 students admitted. I think there might be a similar admit trend.
She will be evaluated the same, but depending on how many people applied, there are maybe 3,000 spots for RD.
@ProudWADad The ED admits rates tend to be much higher at many schools since the schools know that people who apply ED are bound to attend if accepted (limited exception if financial aid makes it unaffordable). Schools care about yield rate (the % of students who they accept who end up enrolling), as it can impact rankings if only indirectly. Schools also want students who are happy to attend their school, such as if it is their top choice or a top choice. With kids applying to so many schools, students accepted RD may not attend the school even if accepted. I see another post of yours noting that another school is your daughter’s #1 choice. As such, WashU might not get your daughter even if they accept her, so they would rather have a sure bet all other things (stats, test scores, ECs, rec letters, etc). being equal. But a downside to ED is not being able to compare financial aid and merit awards.
Yeah, we couldn’t do ED for any schools because of the money issue. Have to consider the full financial package. my daughter already been accepted to her safety schools with significant financial aid… and she’s being quite rational about the choice figuring that affordability is a key part of the decision.
Thanks for the info… i’m just ready for this whole process to be done-- seems like we’ve talked and talked about colleges for years now. We toured 5… and knowing what the options are is probably 2-3 weeks away. Phew!
@ProudWADad Your daughter sounds very mature. Good luck with all the decisions! I’ve got a junior and will be dealing with it next year.
@alwalw I may be wrong, but if I had to guess, the regular decision rate will be 11-15%. WashU’s average class size is 1900 students. 1080 (830 r1, 250 r2) were accepted in ED, which leaves 920 spots to fill left. Assuming WashU will have a yield rate of roughly 27%, we can expect 3400 applicants admitted for RD out of an estimated 33k.
does anyone know when the decisons for rd will come out?
^?
@junseo6 Based on last year, on or around 3/15 might be the date.
the last day of classes before spring break is the 8th of March and the first-day students & faculty return is the 15th
i think it’ll be one of those two days, most likely the 15th (historical precedent also supports 3/15 as the date)
@Waldo755 - wondering where you found 1080 admitted so far? Twitter feed after ED1 said “We just released admission decisions, and are pleased to welcome over 700 bright and talented students to #WashU23 ?” I would think that would mean between 700-750, not all the way up to 830… But I didn’t see a specific number so I could be wrong.
