WashU Spanish Placement

Has anyone taken the Spanish placement exam? If so, what kind of scores are necessary for the various levels of placement? I have no idea what my score means... When am I supposed to receive the actual decision of where I've been placed? Thank you!

i took spanish for 3 years and i looked at the exam. It is okay. I expect you have to do pretty well in order to place. I'd advise just take spanish from scratch. Great way to boost your GPA. :P

I took the placement exam, and I'm kind of wondering when I'll be notified about where I placed. It was challenging, but I took Spanish to the highest level that my high school offered and when they showed me the breakdown of how many I got wrong, I found out I did pretty well.

yeah... spanish is pretty cool. :) I had a cuban teacher. I don't know when they notify you about your scores though. doing pretty well is good. :)

I hope u got in. But if you didn't, u can always take spanish 1 and get a 4.0 on ur GPA. :) thats always a big plus

I'm not sure exactly how the spanish placement exam is... but to give you an idea, I took german through high school and I placed into 300-level german by getting a 3 on the AP (which to me doesnt seem so great).

I'd definitely say take whatever suggestion they give you for placement though, especially if you can skip the very intro courses... they're a lot of credits, and from what i've heard, lots and lots of work too.

washU only offers max of 15 hours of credit from high school

if u count all my APs, I could be done with 1.3 years of college. :)

haha yeah... washu wouldn't have any students if they gave away as many ap credits as we wished :)

what i meant though by intro spanish being lots of credits is that it kills your workload b/c one course is 5 credits instead of just 3, and there are a billion subsections you're supposed to attend... you either have to sign up for fewer classes or spend lots more time in class/doing hw... no fun...

15 hours? Doesn't it accept up to 30 credits? As in... a year's worth?

And Polonius and others that will be attending next year - are you in Olin? I'm hoping to get to know some people before I get there.

WashU ArtSCI accepts 15 credits (how much each AP score will get you is listed on their site) Actually the better you score the fewer AP scores you can use! Ironic isnt it?

Olin might have a different limit.

As for Spanish - I dont remember the exact scores, but for Spanish 1 0 is just fine for Spanish 2 its some score that starts with 2 (if the high score is 100 then Spanish lkevel 2 is around 20 is the score is higher then its 200). If I remember correctly.

Good Luck
