WashU Travel Grant Spring Preview

I just received my admissions packet in the mail, and WashU has offered to cover my roundtrip flight to their school to visit.

Did anyone else get this? And does anyone know if this is very common or very rare?

Thanks.

I don’t know about for Spring Preview, but for the Multicultural Celebration Weekend (which is during the time of Spring Preview), pretty much any student that’s not 100% white seems to have been invited (expenses covered). Though we’re all invited to Spring Preview, it doesn’t look like the expenses are being covered.

I got one too and was also wondering how many people got them. I live in NC so I was thinking that they mainly give them to people from outside of the Midwest? I also haven’t visited yet so that could be it…

I think most of the RD accepted applicants have received the offer for Wash U to pay for their trip. They are recruiting you.

Is the grant for just the student or would it possibly cover parents as well?

just for the student :(

My Son received one and we live in Florida. He has already made plans to visit and they are hosting him on campus with a current student for one night. WashU is currently his top school and we appreciated the gesture (since he was planning to visit either way). They even had their travel agent contact us to coordinate ticketing and the itinerary.

I asked the admissions coordinator if they do this for all admitted students and she said that they select students to offer it to. Not sure of the criteria but location would make sense.

Wash U pays for a lot of students to visit. All expenses are covered for merit scholarship finalists, as well as for students invited to the Multicultural Celebration Weekend (which is for pretty much all minority students, even if you’re of mixed ethnicity), and for most RD admits who want to visit during the Spring Preview (but not ED, unless they were also invited to the Multicultural Weekend but couldn’t make it).

The expenses-paid trips are not all that selective, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything special, but it’s nice to know that the university cares so much about its students and has the money to treat them so SO well.
