WashU USP vs. BU SMED?

I got into BU and WUWSTL's medical programs.
I would like some advice on deciding.
WashU's requirements are 3.8 gpa and 36 mcat.
BU's are 3.2 gpa and 28 mcat.
My thoughts are WashU's med school is amazing, but i don't know how hard it is to get a 3.8 and 36...
Thanks and I would appreciate any help!

If it helps, the financial aid for me is about the same for both schools

Well, a 36 MCAT is higher than the average of the admitted student at Harvard Medical School, so I think that might be difficult. I’ve also heard that pre-med at WUSTL can be very difficult, so a 3.8 might be tough to achieve.

Wash U definitely. I know one of the USP Medical students in my year, and he is the most brilliant person I know. There’s only a really small amount of these people every year… no more than 5 kids.

It’s my belief that Wash U wouldn’t pick people for this program if they didn’t think you can get that GPA and MCAT score.

Those scores you listed (3.8gpa and 36 mcat) are about an average score to get into Wash U Medical School anyway. I’m sure that you would be able to exceed average scores at WUSTL.

And in terms of BU’s program — getting a 3.2 gpa and a 28 MCAT won’t really get you into any decent medschool. Their low requirements, in a way, allow you to slack off during undergrad.

If your only concern is that you can’t meet a certain college GPA and MCAT score, then Wash U is still probably the best option. Because, for instance, say that you don’t meet BU’s requirements. Then you’re likely not getting into any med school. If you don’t meet WUSTL’s requirements, at least you graduated from WUSTL and therefore are more appealing to med schools… med schools all know about WUSTL’s pre-med strengths, and its pre-med program is arguably one of the most (if not the most) respected and challenging premed programs in the country.

I think you should have a little more faith in your own strengths and promise. I highly doubt WUSTL would choose someone for the USP program who is questionable. The program is so small, and supposed to represent the best and brightest of the already amazing pre-med students. Your goal should be to go to the best schools that are the best fit for you, and WUSTL without question meets the “best school” criteria for the pre med and med school. Have you visited yet? you should visit campus and see if you think you can fit in there, too.

I would say Wash U. If you got USP in medicine, you’re a genius, and you can get a 3.8. Chemistry kept that impossible for me, but I would think that if Wash U picked you, you are going to get an A in chemistry.

I’m actually really excited for you…that’s an amazing accomplishment! Good luck with the decision!

^ hey thanks a lot!
anyone else?

Honestly, I think that you would know best and I agree with the other posters. If you are special enough to even get into the USP program at Wash U then you must be a very talented individual. I would say go for it. Good luck in whatever your decision will be!

Go to Wash U only if you’ll be OK with NOT getting that 3.8 GPA or 36 MCAT. There’s a VERY good chance you won’t achieve at that level. If you can’t cut these ridiculous cutoffs for the program, make sure you’ll have been at a place you’ll be happy for four years.

Go to BU if you’re happy with both the undergrad school and the medical school. You’ll certainly be less likely to develop an ulcer by the time you graduate. Think about what your undergrad life will be like knowing you can head off to med school maintaining only a 3.2 GPA at a less rigorous but still academically strong college.
